I'll skip too much discussion of the event.
I went. I fenced. I left.
Just kidding. :)
I drove up to NY with
fredeburg,
campagnella, and
raginscotsman on Friday and got a hotel in Hamburg, NY. Saturday morning we arrived at the event with plenty of time, since the hotel was 45 minutes from the new event site. Right after we got there, I changed and went out to the fencing field, where I pretty much stayed for the whole event. I marshaled a little bit, wandered over to talk to Her Highness, looked for
fredeburg a few times, and took some water and food breaks, but for the most part I did nothing but fight. And I've rarely had more fun! I'm a total junkie, I admit.
I lost track of who I fought or how often I saw them, but overall I only missed out on fighting 2 people that I was after. Of course, both live in NY, so I will have to look forward to Coronation to catch up with them. I got in some cut-and-thrust against a few people towards the very end, which was not nearly enough for my taste. Overall I had fun, and got in some matches against
fredeburg, so my day on the field was a total win.
I forgot to bring a shirt to wear for court with my newly-redone fencing armor, but people near me survived the sweaty smell somehow. A couple of people said I looked bored standing up there, but it wasn't boredom: I was so pooped I was trying not to fall over. I made it, though, and after the portion of court I was needed for, the four adventurers went out to eat dinner.
raginscotsman(Liam) took a nice shot across the left butt cheek from His Highness Maynard during his fighting that was apparently making its presence known. Liam sat at an angle through dinner, much to the amusement of
campagnella. I drove our group back to the hotel after dinner, where we ate some doughnuts and chatted until it was time for bed.
I must have fought a lot, because my almost-asleep dreams were filled with me parrying and throwing shots, which made me jerk occasionally while trying to fall asleep, then laugh to myself. Amusing stuff.
Today (Sunday) I drove us back, and realized that 5 hours of fencing didn't leave me that sore, but 8 hours of driving left my right calf very sore and painful. It seems that tensing one muscle area for extended hours at a time will make it hurt! You learn something all the time.
