There are samples from the soundtrack of the Menken/Schwartz Disney-based musical. As I mentioned, it's an uneasy hybrid of the Disney film, the earlier German-language Disney musical, and the novel, with some peculiar changes to the characters' relationships.

I just want to comment a little on the US musical, The Hunchback of Notre Dame. The main problems are that it is a fudge between the book and the Disney film. It retains the songs and main structure from Disney, with Phœbus as romantic lead. However, it has restored Claude to being an archdeacon, and Esméralda is executed in the end, although not ( Read more... )

I now have the CD of this American stage musical (1997, Guayaquil Records). It's quite interesting, but I have no idea what the spoken script was like, or the staging. The numbers I found particularly appealing are:
