A couple of weeks ago I watched this amazing Spanish movie (from 2006) called Pan's Labirinth (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0457430/) . It's a blend between pure fantasy (almost Alice in Wonderland but waaaaaay darker) and sad World War 2 movie (after all it takes place in 1944). I wanted for a long time to make a list of movies that don't just have a gay side character, but that are actually centered on homosexual romance or pay a lot of attention to this aspect. So far it's and incomplete list, but I do plan on expanding it. If anyone has a good recommendation I'm looking forward to it :)
