Mega Post: My Piano Compositions

Feb 24, 2007 07:32

ATTENTION! ATTENTION!

I figured I won't live forever, so I might as well do this now.

I love you all very, very much. This is for you.

Introduction

I've been composing music since I was in grade school and I've been playing the piano since I was six. Eventually, my parents told me to quit my lessons during high school because I was playing soccer with the national team and the state uni, and had too many things to juggle. I miss formal lessons and there was a time when I could have used this talent to enter the UP College of Music. Unfortunately, that didn't come to fruition and I pursued my love of literature instead.

I composed whenever I felt like it, usually at the family baby grand piano. When I sit down in front of the keys, I tap into a different world. A dimension of pure music? Who knows. I hear it in my head, I hear it in my heart; I can hum it and eventually, it just transforms into something.

I've been told I should probably be a recording artist but I also know that with film in my roster, it might take a while for me to do something even remotely professional in the music industry. Though I have been asked to do music for film but...I'm really not that talented.

I have a rather jazzy, popsy, weird style. You can't actually put a genre into it except that it's easy listening, instrumental, and would probably fit into your grandmother's collection more readily than yours. But I want to it share anyway, because there are people out there who believe in what my music can do.

A Behind the Scenes Look at My Musical Process

You can hear all the goodness in streaming music HERE

(You're going to need Windows Media Player to play it. If you don't have Windows Media Player, you may download the files HERE under the play-list "Piano Compositions". And sure, feel free to download anything else.)

These initial track uploads are dedicated to the following, who have always believed in what my piano fingers could do: awildflowersoul, dimwethiel, pandora__, bona_na_croin, heiz, selvercy, bijouwel and asianscaper. You all know I'm a genius, one way or another, even if this is a sucky recording (ambient sound is dirty); I did it on a low-end mic with nothing more than SoundForge and a file converter. And I FINALLY decided to record these because my brain cells have started to die and I can't keep 'em in my head forever. Yes, you guys were right.

A little background on the tracks themselves:

Track 2 - I play this on a loop every time I'm on the piano and I could actually do variations of this without thinking. This is unfinished, precisely because I loop it all the time.

Track 3 - I had this little Peter Pan movie running in my head when I composed this, the nostalgia of childhood, the idea of flying, disappearing islands, and other dreams. One of my favorites, actually.

Track 4 / 12 - This track reminds me of home, strangely enough. The chimes weren't contrived. We just have wind and chimes at the porch, is all!

Track 7 - The birds weren't contrived either, okay? We have birds at home! This piece was intended for a friend who left for the US to pursue her dreams (there are so many of you I don't want to name names).

Track 9 - Culled from the jazz of the 90's. One of two pieces. This was one of the harder ones to compose, and hard to play without practice or a warm-up so I slowed it down a bit. But I figured that the slowing down worked, so yeah.

Tell me what you think about the pieces. I'll upload new stuff every now and then. By the way, they're all title-less...maybe you guys can help me with that. Tell me what the tracks remind you of, or what they make you think about. I'm planning to eventually transpose these piano pieces into chill-out. Someday!

More to come soon, on request! And if you want a piece composed for you, just pleasantly hint at it and I'll see what I can do.

Influences et al.

This is the best chill-out I've compiled so far, if you're into that. I update this list every now and then (still haven't uploaded Royksopp or Air, frakkit). Again, it's a Windows Media Player play-list, and I'll inform you if I update it (especially if you like the songs). I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I have. This is the stuff I write/sleep to and could probably be called an influence on my style. Download it on streaming HERE.

I'm a huge classical music buff so kill me. Chopin, Vivaldi, Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, Strauss...the list goes on. I'm into movie scores and I love the work of Goldenthal, Horner, and the guy who did Lord of the Rings. I will willingly be the slave of trumpeteer Chris Botti (yup, another influence) and Enya could make me nostalgic any day. I had a Yanni thing once and you could probably hear that in my music (because I'm a geek that way). I'm a huge fan of finger-style guitar and you can see that in this post.

So that's musical me in a nutshell. I suppose that my style won't be up to most of your musical tastes, but it's me. Hope the post didn't make you sleep!
