I'm no art historian and I wonder who first had the idea of portraying disability with sympathy instead of ridicule or judgement. Was it Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec? Possibly it wasn't but he did paint with sympathy towards at least one of his muses: Jane Avril

In Britain atm there's a series of telly adverts with comedy meerkat puppets. These happen not to be to my taste so I always use the 'mute' button or fast-forward, so it was only today that I noticed that one of the characters uses a wheelchair. Has anybody managed to watch these adverts sufficiently to comment on whether this is a good portrayal?
