And Another Family Dog Goes To Rainbow Bridge

Feb 19, 2010 20:44

Last night I came home and found that Biggie (who had just turned a year old last February 13) was shaking uncontrollably. And he could barely jump from the ledge where he usually waits with the other family dogs for me to get home around midnight.

I let him in the house and even covered him in a blanket because I initially thought that he was cold. The weather here in the Philippines had been batshit crazy the past few days and I believe Wednesday was the hottest we'd had. On that day, I gave him and two of our dogs a bath. But the weather suddenly dropped that evening.

This morning, Biggie could not even stand up. So my dad and I bought him to the animal hospital to get checked. The vet told us that it could either be flu (they'd had a lot of cases like that for this week due to the weather) or distemper. She told us that we'd have to go back at 6 pm for the results and that we'd have to leave Biggie with them.

I gave them my mom's number since as you all know, I'm going to be at the shop all day and will even have to spend the next two nights here because I have to reinstall one of the games I offer as services.

Around 8 pm, I got a SMS from my mom. She said that Biggie was diagnosed as highly positive for distemper and that we'd have to put him to sleep so that he does not have to suffer any more. Biggie's case was beyond the help of medication.

What even makes it suck is that we could not even bring Biggie home to be laid to rest with the rest of our family dogs because it is that bad. The animal hospital would be the one to bury his body instead.

I can only take so much grief. What makes it even sadder is that Biggie looks a lot like Maxy.

/edit

My dad didn't want to not bring Biggie home. He told the vet attendants to seal Biggie tightly and he'll be buried along with the other dogs.

Biggie is home now...

inu, bad news
