One of the family dogs - Maxy went missing the night of January 29. You see, Maxy can scale our front gate (that's why I call him a ninja dog). But usually he knows how to find his way home.
It has always been that way even back during my college days. Maxy would scale the gate whenever I'm leaving for school and would trot along happily beside me until I am able to board a tricycle that would take me to the village gate.
By Saturday morning, Maxy was still nowhere to be found. One of our neighbors told us that Maxy might have been slaughtered by the informal settlers who live down our street because the same thing happened to their dog. My parents and I had been losing hope. By Sunday morning, we've had news that Maxy was spotted in one of the streets in our village. And mind you, Palmera 2 is a huge subdivision...so huge in fact it's already considered as two barrangays already. My parents drove all morning through the streets looking for him, but still no Maxy.
Sunday evening, I was getting so worried because the heat had been terrible the past few days (summer has arrived early for us in the Philippines because of El Niño). And among all our family's dogs, Maxy is the one who easily gets thirsty.
Monday evening, I was manning the shop when I got a call from my mom. She said that one of our neighbors who is a school bus driver found Maxy roaming around Palmera 6 which is 3 subdivisions away from our own. They immediately went there along with the kind-hearted man.who guided them.
According to my parents they were searching the last street in the village when they saw Maxy who was already lying on the curb and as soon as my mom called out his name he could only lift his head and could not even walk. They took him to the vet and was confined for 4 days.
I visited him yesterday and my dad asked me to tell the vet that we will be picking Maxy up by lunch time today. When I left Maxy, he was crying as if he wanted me to take him home.
Well he did get home. Except that he's dead.
Just when things seem to be going smoothly, Maxy had a seizure this morning and according to the vet he started pooping plastic. Yes, plastic. It seems that during the time that Maxy was roaming the streets, perhaps due to extreme hunger he had to feed on garbage.
I really feel so sad right now.
