[For anyone and everyone who has an invitation]Now that Phillipe's home was filling up with faces that Julien just basically didn't recognise, he was having second, third, forth and tenth thoughts about any sort of party. It was too late, though, and he had to like it or lump it. Phillipe knew just about everyone here on some level, as was what ( Read more... )

Julien & Lauren amodelpa May 17 2010, 09:46:27 UTC
It was rather convenient that her big sister was acting as Julien's gatekeeper. It meant Lauren could get up close and personal with Julien on the pretext of talking to her sister as well. She still felt horrible about hitting on Julien at Tesco's, the guilt eating her up inside as she clung to a Tupperware container and chewed her lip whenever her gaze flicked to the Frenchman.

Sophie eventually let out a helpless sign before kissing her sister on the forehead and excusing herself to seek out her husband. She was more than aware of Lauren's crush on the airman. She actually thought it was sweet, even if she wasn't so sure of the timing. Julien needed to be eased back into things, not whacked in the face.

Lauren almost ran after her sister when she realised she was suddenly alone with Julien, even if it had been what she wanted. She cleared her throat before holding out the Tupperware container filled with homemade Rocky Road for him. "I... I made you this."

Julien nearly ran after Sophie too, realising she had became a psuedo-safety blanket for him, and he now found himself quite starkly exposed and standing with the girl who had belted him in the face with a freezer door. In fact, his nose gaze a subtle throb just at the memory; he'd had a bruise across his cheek and down the side of his nose in the wake of it, not to mention a lingering headache. Thankfully now both had faded.

He bit the inside of his lip, trying to train himself not to act like a wanker again. He was just so rusty at all this, and uncertain about it all, too. He glanced over at where Phillipe had already zeroed in on Jess after pointing her out to him, and it was hard to believe that looking at the younger Morgan sister that night that she was related to Sophie or Lauren. He warily dipped his head to look in the box, hoping it wasn't something that would make him want to barf like cavier or salmon vol au vents. He had never been much of a seafood person, which could often be just tough shit in a rich schmoozing ( ... )

Lauren shrugged as she finally let herself smile as he started to laugh. "I wanted to. I still feel really, really bad about the smack to the nose, and my shitty, ah, timing. I was going to try and call you earlier in the week to see if you were okay, but I didn't have your number, and I felt bad about trying to find it." She pointed at the container. "I also figured you might want something homemade. I know I would if I'd been away for ages."

Julien pressed his lips together wryly with a smile. "Fresh milk is luxury to me," he said with a small shrug. "I appreciate it, I really do. For the thoughts, and this. I've been a bit of a zombie over the week, I wouldn't have been much company. I hear you have a busy schedule, anyway, so you shouldn't be wasting time thinking about the idiot in the supermarket. In fact, we should just forget about the whole thing," he said with an amused smirk.

Lauren gave a nod of her head. "I bet it would be. I still don't know how you do it, but I admire you for just having a sheer drive and will to do what you do." Lauren touched his arm briefly as she gave a shake of her head. "Please don't say that. Honestly? It's a pleasure to have something I can think about that isn't work related. I haven't taken the time to make anything in so long either, that it was a pleasure making the dessert. Don't worry about my schedule, okay?" She grinned. "But that means we never met, and that would actually be sad."

"It's not necessarily about drive or will. Some days it is. Some days it takes every fibre of your being to get get through the day, but truth of the matter is, sometimes people are just good at unappealling things. Being a fighter pilot is just my thing, I do something that a lot of other people don't want to. In saying that, I could never do something like being a doctor, yet I'm damn glad they exist." Julien shrugged with a small smile, never one to really see what he did as anything beyond the fact he was supposed to be doing it.

He laughed and shook his head. "Non, belle. I'm sure we could have met again in much better circumstances if it was meant to be. I was really not myself that night. I shouldn't have even left the house. Phillipe was just too busy to get a chance to intercept me and, je ne sais pas, handcuff me to the sofa, maybe?"

Lauren sought out her little brother in the crowd and pointed at him. "That's Liam, my little brother. He's the doctor to be. I don't really know how he could do it, either. The idea of having my hands deep in someone's body is just... terrifying. So's the idea of flying a plane. Maybe it's why I stick to the safety of the work I do."

Lauren couldn't help when handcuffs and Julien went through her head in a different context. Her eyes glazed over for a moment before she blinked and looked at Julien again, colour starting to creep into her cheeks. "Maybe, but at least it's an interesting story. Not everyone can claim to a first meeting being so unforgettable."

Julien's gaze followed where she was pointing and he nodded, but couldn't help laughing a little. "I mean this in the nicest possible way, but he looks like he should be a gay underwear model. I feel like I should have my hand down my pants scratching my arse and belching in comparison to him. But... I can see he's your brother. Good genes," he added, glancing at her with his eyes shining a little.

"How many people in this room are your... clients? Is that the word? Or do you just work solely for one person? Excusez-moi, I asked Phillipe what it was you did. I had to explain to him I met you. He didn't buy the story I ran into a doorknob," he joked.

Lauren ducked her head as she smiled shyly, and her cheeks started to heat up more. "Thanks. Our parents did pretty good. I guess I'm glad they didn't run out of the good genes when they got to me, Jess, and Li. And funny you should mention the gay underwear model thing. He's gay, and a trained hairdresser." She bumped her shoulder against Julien as she looked up at him. "You really shouldn't feel like when you look at him. You got some pretty good genes, too ( ... )

Julien laughed. "A hairdresser training to be a doctor? He's one of those no one can accuse of being boring, isn't he?" he guessed. He sighed and briefly met Phillipe's gaze across the room. "My brother has it bad for your sister. I probably shouldn't be telling you that, but he's been kicking himself ever since that day in the office. Not to make any excuses for him, but Phillipe isn't a connard. He's just... he has a lot of affection to give. I guess that can come across as inappropriate in the wrong context. Us French, we grow up being taught to show our affections if we appreciate a fine fille, just in probably a more suave way than he managed with your sister."

He raised his eyebrows. "Why not? You didn't like it? The photos were no good? He must've trusted you to want you to do it. Maybe you were be magnifique at it. A doctor and a hairdresser, a paramedic and a model. Why do I feel boring all of a sudden?" he asked with a smirk. "And no need to feel like an idiot, it was an accident."

She smirked at him. "Or he might just have a thing for pointy objects. I haven't quite worked it out yet. But no, no one can ever accuse my little brother of being boring." Lauren tried to act surprised, but failed. "You don't say? She's been more than pissed off at his attempt to be suave. She's been wanting to belt him. I'm really not sure if I should tell you this, but he had her convinced all men just saw her as a pair of tits of legs. I don't think I could ever believe your brother could be a twat. You share genes, there has to be something redeeming about him. His brain probably short-circuited, yeah?"

"Oh, no, no. The photos were great. Anything Braden does is great. It's just never been something I considered before. I always figured it was outside my realm, you know? Or I was too nice. But Braden said his current agent, the one in Scotland, is nice and she's successful. You really shouldn't feel boring. I'm the one that's boring." Lauren smiled at him. "Thank you. I'm still really sorry if I caused you any pain."

"Loneliness," Julien offered, pressing his lips together with a wry smile. "Not to say that your sister is not beautiful, she is. Phillipe has always had tastes for the finer things in life. But I think he subconsciously panicked when he met her. He is not as suave as people think. When he has feelings for someone, even in their early stages, he actually can get really tongue-tied and nervous, covers it with overcompensating the player routine. He threw up once when he wanted to ask a girl out. Never did end up asking her because he chickened out. It was years ago, though. He's got more confidence since, but it's still there. And at the end of the day, who doesn't hope to meet someone special one day? Maybe he just knew off the bat your sister was just that? He just screwed up, and he's been kicking himself in the arse since ( ... )

Lauren looked over at where her sister and Phillipe were, watching him with new eyes. Now that Julien had mentioned his brother's tendency towards nerves she could certainly read the little hints in his body language like the way he kept wetting his lips, and the shift of his weight from one foot to another. "She's going to take some convincing. It's insane how quickly she's written him off. I guess we all do want to meet someone special, but if it doesn't go the way we dream of we're quick to dismiss it ( ... )

Julien laughed and shook his head. "Hey, I might be his twin, but I don't deny he could use someone to keep him on his toes. She's a modern woman, doesn't take shit. That's not a bad thing at all. If she doesn't want him hitting on her and making fleeting comments about her body, then damn straight she should let him know about. The thing is, it just makes him more hot for her," he said in amusement.

He looked over all the people she was pointing out and nodded slowly. "Actually, I caught the America accent in passing, just didn't think much on it. It's quite a gathering, it makes my head spin a little. I'm not used to being around this many people lately without them being in camo. Don't get me wrong, though, this sort of scene I'm not really foreign to."

Lauren pushed her hair out of her face as she grinned. "Glutton for punishment is he? Then he must really be loving how Jess is treating him. She's still wondering what the fish and clown meant. Personally I think it's sweet. He's thought about the presents he's got her, not just sent a generic bunch of flowers."

She raised an eyebrow. "Not foreign to it, but still don't like it? It's okay not to, you know. I know I have a big family, but that doesn't mean I don't like the more intimate type of gatherings. Which we somehow manage to pull off even with our numbers."

"But she's a lawyer. Aren't they supposed to overanalyse everything?" Julien at his brother and then smirked, shaking his head slowly. "Non... that's the thing. He usually isn't."

"Never much liked it," he corrected. "But you get raised in this sort of enviroment, it's just second nature. I was a bit of a black sheep. We have a big family too, just mostly extended family members throughout France. Mingling makes me appreciate pay TV," he laughed.
