You just have to understand that these people for the most part have been left behind by life, they are selfish because perhaps others always took what they had and they are paranoid now. these people probibly need love and friendship, and don't realize to a great extent they sabotage themselves. They are miserable, yes, they try to bring us down because misery likes company, but they should be understood not scorned. There is the very rare person that is truely horrible, but we don't know their story, I think these are they type that never understand how to live. There can be some very good people who do monstrous things be it because they lost everything or they have a disorder ( ... )

By your understanding of good, and unselfish,
I would be in that catagory.
It says something about you, that were so quick to judge and not try to understand my words but apply it to the way you see things, and then quickly defend yourself, of which no attack was made.
I think you are in denial.

Not everyone who does bad things, is bad.
They have good intentions.

If you judge too quickly, you won't take the time to understand. You will hurt others, with your idea's of self righteousness.

Seek truth and understanding, not preconcieved notions of what's good or bad, don't go the distance for ideals, but really understand, what pushes you to the next level, to be the best person you can be.

Even scientists are constantly going on about how they are surprised about how unselfish too many lifeforms are... like scientists expect selfishness to be the highest and most correct virtue. And those are some of the more peaceful ones amoung us.

You're half-right. It's Richard Dawkins theory of the Selfish Gene. Genes that promote their survival over the survival of other genes will be more likely to survive, and therefore become more common.

And by that theory, altruism is predicted because there are beings that share portions of your genes. If you had to choose between the life of your child versus a stranger, very few people would hesitate to choose the one more closely related to them. Genes with a tendency to preserve genes similar to theirs would be more likely to survive, and therefore become more common.

However, you'll notice that even that altruism is selfish in a way, since the genes favour genes just like theirs. The gene is selfish, even if the behaviour exibited by the being with the genes appears altruistic.

But ( ... )

Ahhh, that just makes no sense. You still can't understand the idea of overall freedom, and innocence. It is such a simple thing.

Can't? Interesting choice of words. I didn't realize freedom was a solid concept, rather than an idea. Ideas are open to both differing definitions and interpretations.

And I'm already familiar with utilitarianism. Not a philosophy I agree with, but it has it's good points.

Firstly, my idea has it that freeism is a natural way of being, just how someone's soul works, not a belief or a principle, unilike utilitarianism.

And what is a soul? How does one differentiate between a strongly held belief and 'just how [a] soul works".

Secondly... freeism is about choice not about a specific "perfect state", because such a state couldn't move if it was perfect, it would be quite boring.

Where did I say it was this?

And you misread me. I never said that this planet is the Universe. I said everyone I met SO FAR is selfish at best (and sometimes sadistic). But this only applies to Earth. I'll repeat myself, things ( ... )

Fool yourself, build up some rationalisation of why your selfish/sadistic acts are good and you can get away with it, you've always got some excuse to fall back on.

Like how the average person who lies is beneath you and doesn't deserve your help?

You see, I may judge but I judge based on a chain of reasoning, which I did fully explain.

You poorly explained your poor reasoning. Looking back, I see the following chain of thought:
1) Selfishness and sadism are the same thing
2) Everyone I've ever met except me is selfish
3) If you look outside the planet you might find some non-selfish people (?)
4) I haven't had my needs taken care of (Which is guess means there aren't enough selfless people around willing to give you stuff?)
5) When I tell people I want things, they don't want to help me

What you are doing there is making false statements with no attempt to back it up by connecting it to my words.

Solving the problem right here, baby.

I never said you attacked me. Another statement about me based on no quote from me.
Actually, I ( ... )

No, you didn't see that chain of thought. You made up the first one, not me.

I suppose when reason doesn't work, we can always turn to contradiction.
You said: "
But not everyone is selfish. If you can be sadistic, to simply want to do something beyond yourself, why not also want to do something good beyond yourself?" You mentioned selfishness and sadism in the same thought. In later posts (after I made that one) you clarify you stance, but I think that is a perfectly reasonable interpretation of what you wrote.

You got number three wrong, I said there ARE some, not might be.

You have proof of life outside the planet? SETI would like to know, and so would I. How did you discover this?

And the last one you got totally wrong also, it's not about telling, it's EXPLAINING, saying perfectly true and logical stuff. If I were just telling I could tell a lie right?
How naive are you? Do you really think it's impossible to make a misleading argument using sound logic? Here's an easy one right off the top of my head: The average American has ( ... )
