Well, we ain't the only guys out there getting pregnant. Thank goodness for that. Especially since the pregnant trans man news is now on major news outlets and people are quite, ah, perplexed.
Pregnant Trans Man story hits the national news Here is a bit of info on a pregnant non-trans man:
Movie clip of pregnant non-trans man I was having trouble with YouTube, so there is the link.
Here is more on this project --
Pregnant Non-Trans Man My own take on trans men getting pregnant? I would never advise a trans man to become pregnant AFTER transition. There are many reasons, notably, the health of the infant. No one really knows for sure, whether or not this type of pregnancy is exposing an infant to greater risk of birth defects or other issues. Older women are at greater risk of having children who have various defects, and certainly, a trans man who has been on testosterone for many years, and then stopped, may be putting his unborn child at a similar risk. No one knows.
Of course, older women have children, and there shouldn't be a law against it, but it is something they keep in mind and monitor.
Of course, the pregnancy may go perfectly well.
Also, it is a person's business ultimately, and they can do what they like.
For myself, I would never have done it. Call me old-fashioned, but I'd rather my wife had the kids -- thanks! The idea of being pregnant makes me more than a little queasy.
It is better, in my mind, to keep this decision private as well. I am disturbed that this trans guy's pregnancy is so high-profile and receiving so much publicity since it is possible that this could make it harder for the rest of us at some point. I mean, if there is a backlash against "pregnant men" possibly, it would be harder to obtain IDs in our transitioned sex. Might there be requirements that we have hystos, or that we have other types of bottom surgery before we are legally transitioned? This could become an issue. The trend so far has been toward making the requirements for getting a new ID or for starting testosterone, more liberal, but this trend could be impacted negatively by the publicity of a trans man getting pregnant.
On the other hand, maybe not. Ultimately, not too many people are that concerned with transsexuals.
Anyway, I was relieved to find that a non-trans man is pregnant! At least, we can say there are other guys out there making these type of decisions, and it doesn't make us automatically into women. We can say, "Didn't you hear about that male performance artist who likes to cook, write letters, and is now pregnant?" He is taking female hormones in such a way that they provide an appropriate chemical environment for the child. Of course, he will have to have a c-section and the pregnancy is entopic. He plans to make a feature film about this. He actually may not physically survive the pregnancy. It takes all kinds these days, and certainly, an adventuresome artist would be the first to blaze this trail. And, I add, he claims to not want to become a woman.
Interesting... I would like to know your thoughts.
