If he is on T or took T right before he got pregnant, he needs a big fat kick in the face. SRSLY. Way to fucking endanger a human being with no choice in how he's/she's brought into the world, asshole.

I have said numerous times and have maintained numerous times that it is unwise for anyone who has taken large amounts of testosterone to conceive. Testosterone permanently changes the way some of our body cells work/perform, and it is only biologically logical to believe that the cells most affected by the hormone would be our fucking centers that produce our hormones, i.e., the ovaries. How are they affected? No one's done a study on it, but why would you even dare take that risk? Jesus fucking Christ.

(Caveat: I've not done more than skim the articles regarding this.)

You know, I would never in a billion years consider using my possibly dodgy genetic material to create a child...but it does piss me off that when I do want to start a family, I'll be at a distinct disadvantage when it came to navigating the already daunting, financially draining, and intrusive adoption process because of my trans* medical history. It sort of makes me understand why people are so keen on making sure they're the biological parent of their offspring.

However, if they had the opportunity to adopt and just want 'their own', I'd agree with your assessment 100%.

Would you say the same thing to ciswomen older than forty who choose to get pregnant? After all, that is a very risky thing as well.

Lee Mingwei is not actually pregnant...it is merely an art performance, no hormones involved ( except for those that were already present in his body, of course! ).

I was looking at that site/looking for info on that, but thanks for clearing that one up. That just didn't seem quite right/doable to me yet (re: medically speaking, since I come from a medical background).

No, he is carrying a child for real. They did give him hormones to help:

What were the exact hormones administered to the patient? The following hormones were given to Mr. Lee: lutenizing hormone, folicle stimulating hormone, estrogen, testosterone, progesterone, thyroid, and gamma fluro buterarone. Please see Figure 1 and Figure 2 for more details.

This is from the frequently asked questions concerning male pregnancy page. This is real. He might die. Of course, he is using someone (a female's) egg.

I mean, if there is a backlash against "pregnant men" possibly, it would be harder to obtain IDs in our transitioned sex. Might there be requirements that we have hystos, or that we have other types of bottom surgery before we are legally transitioned? This could become an issue.

You raise valid concerns there, too.

Also, with this FtM douchebag having had removed his breasts, how's the breastfeeding going to happen? Babies do need to be breastfed (and I believe it was my mother's derelict in that duty that caused me to have immunity problems in childhood and later on in life). Ahgasdas;;, whatever. I'm not gonna care about the freakshow in about ten seconds as I get back to politics.

As for the breastfeeding, his wife could induce lactation. It's an option that many women choose when they adopt.

You may not agree with his decision, but it was his decision to make. Calling other FtMs douche bag and freak show isn't going to do any of us any good. We get enough of that elsewhere to have it going on from each other.

Tons of babies are not breastfed and turn out just fine. If the couple had adopted a baby at birth, the kid would probably not have been breastfed either.

Blah blah blah, it's called free speech FtM. You don't have to like it, or me. To me, he is a fucking douchebag for even taking that risk for another living being who has no say about how he/she's coming into the world. I would say the same of an alcoholic, a drug addict or any other person with a high risk of passing crap on through reproduction.

And fifty million more pages from breeders, PNBs and doctors about how breastfeeding is essential.

I cannot find anything listing a location for ths medical center, a phone number or even which country it is is. The male pregnancy hoax has been going around for a while and despite the complexity of the site I'd bet my life on it being a hoax.

There is interesting coverage of the pregnant trans man on Jezebel; I found it interesting that some of the commentary below the article was actually NOT rage-inducing. YMMV, of course.

Yea, it is the guy's choice obviously and I wish him well. But, really, I hope there is not negative fallout for us all from this, and -- I hope the baby is healthy.
