Long time gone
I guess I've been kind of quiet over here. Where did September go? Hello October, strange to see you.
I've been a little busy, as it turns out. Among other things, I'm changing from a full time transcriptionist at my company to an independent contractor for them. Which means, effectively, that soon I will be no longer directly employed by them. In the meantime, I'm contracting as a temp with several temp agencies and I'm hoping to be employed through them PDQ. Any minute now. No, really.
I actually had an interview yesterday with a temp agency client company, and I think it went pretty well. It's for a company that I temped for oh, well, eight years ago now. And I really liked working there. I'm not sure if I should mention who they are unless I get the temp job. It's a large company you would all recognize. The guy I interviewed with was friendly and upbeat, and he seemed impressed with my skills and my attitude, from what I could tell. And also that I'd worked there before so I know something of the culture and skills. Oh, and it's another case of me showing up, and the people being impressed that a temp is not a complete nutjob. I mean, who ends up showing up for these things sometimes? It puts me in a good light, but it's a little scary that basic competence is admired so greatly from me when all I'm doing is showing up, speaking coherent sentences (mostly) and looking like I give a damn. I remember one place where the first time I transferred a call the office manager clapped and squealed "Yay!" And was so impressed that I was able to push buttons in the right order. Again, who shows up for these jobs? It's not like I was doing it while balancing crockery on sticks or anything. Anyway, the position I'm going for is an assistant editor position, which would be a fab title to add to my resume, as well as sounding like pretty interesting work. It's not a temp to perm position per se, but if I do end up temping for them, you bet your sweet asses I'll be applying for perm positions once I've established how awesome I am. Because they have pretty decent benefits. I'm pretty sure, though, that awesomeness as a temp is different than awesomeness as an employee, so I'll have to step up the awesome if I do get the job. More than just showing up and giving a damn, really.
And yes, benefits. I'll be losing the ones I have sometime in January. So I'm going to sign up with whatever temp agency I end up getting a job through for the benes, and hope it doesn't take too huge a chunk out of my check. And then work towards a fantastic-paying full time perm job sometime real dang soon with great benefits.
In other unrelated news, Abby is doing pretty well. I took her to the vet again for a check up. And while she's still underweight, (skinny and bony at 7.8 pounds) she's up a few ounces, and hasn't lost any since I took her in in July. So while I haven't really gotten her to up her weight enough, at least I stopped the weight loss. And her coat is soft, her muscle tone is good, her hydration levels are good, and she doesn't seem to be anemic anymore. So yay Abby! I still have to give her an appetite stimulant pill every couple of days. The vet said that was fine.
Random dreamtime weirdness - the other day I was having a lot of stress dreams, and I was trying to come up with a title for something as I was falling asleep, and then in my sleep. I kept waking up with titles sort of drifting around, and waking up from stress dreams thinking damn it! I just want to sleep already! And once when I woke up from a combination of the two, I thought to myself "And I shall call that one 'Irritating Conversations with a Parrot.'" I have no idea. I don't remember the dream at all. Later I thought maybe I meant monkeys, but now I remember that I definitely was talking to a parrot. Who was harranguing me about something. Maybe. Um...
Well, while I am going to be changing how I do this particular job, for the moment I need to get back to it. Happy typing to me.
