This week was pretty rough. Came in late two days (one due to me accidentally leaving my lights on in the car and having to wait to get some assistance to jump her, and the other because I badly overslept even though four alarms woke me up on time) and had to work my ass off with the village idiot coworker. Not how I wanted to spend my spring break, that's for sure, but it's my four day and I need the time to relax right now.
At least I managed to have a good time today. I went with a friend to the Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site in Collinsville. It had been a while since I last been there. They updated the Interpretive Center a lot. I've always been fascinated learning about ancient civilizations and how they lived all those years ago. And the Monks Mound, which is like the highlight of the entire site...I had forgotten how high that mound is! I mean, it's only one hundred feet high, but try the stair climb to it. If you're badly out of shape, one could barely make it. I got up to the top when I was a kid (like in kindergarten), and I made it last time. Here's a photo of the mound in question:
Look at that! Two sets of stares heading up one hundred feet high. Now the view from up top is really nice, don't get me wrong. We both enjoyed it. But those steps...they'll wear anyone out and make you dizzy if you're afraid of heights. I'm glad I went, though. I needed that.
