Jayne is a Girl's Name

Is River talking about Jayne the whole time in 1.11 “Trash”?

River starts the conversation with "She's a liar," with the audience, as well as Jayne and Simon, assuming she's talking about Yo-Saf-Bridge, but that's never explicitly stated. Obviously, Jayne is a man, with manly bits, but River only uses pronouns for the conversation before she abruptly states that "Jayne is a girl's name," after which she continues to talk about Jayne. While she does, she uses no pronouns at all, making it unclear whether or not she would use male or female pronouns to refer to him. The rest of her dialogue is about Jayne being a liar, who shouldn't be trusted, exactly what she was saying when she was using female pronouns. If we were unaware that Jayne was a man, it would probably seem as if she had never switched topics, if she did at all.

Was she ever talking about Yo-Saf-Bridge?

River speaks cryptically, and sometimes it’s hard to tell exactly what she means, but because of the exact way her dialogue is written in this scene, it makes me wonder if we’re supposed to think she’s talking about Saffron, or if she’s always talking about Jayne.

river, just saying, simon, firefly, yo-saf-bridge, jayne, 1.11 "trash", identify yourself
