The Reason for the Season

This seems to happen to me every year.  To me there is the Winter Solstice, then there is New Years.  I keep forgetting there is another holiday in between those two.  Pretty much all the decorations and traditions this time of year revolve around pagan traditions of some sort or another anyway.  While most of us don't immediately take the decorations down after the holiday has passed - since we are welcoming back the sun, it's appropriate to leave them up for awhile - I don't really think too much about that.  But when I go out, like today, I am always momentarily baffled as to why everyone is still shopping so hard.  The gift-giving holiday was on the 21st this year, after all...

Then I remember the whole Christmas thing.
