Now that so much of medicine in the U.S. is computerized the insurance companies are having a hay day. First they can tell if your doctor is prescribing you a new name brand drug or a generic. If they are covering your medicine be assured that the insurers are already writing letters to your doctor demanding an explanation why they aren't prescribing a generic. The more generic drugs the less your insurers have to invest in your health. So the paperwork for your case increases even more. For every 4 minutes the doctor is with a patient figure that they are spending 20 minutes filling in paperwork. Now imagine your job is a radio disk jockey, for every song they play they would have to be filling out 10 minutes of paperwork. You would have to spend far more time on paperwork then playing music. Seriously could you do your job with these types of over sights, would you want to do your job having to justify everything that you spent years learning to do correctly?
Three years ago when attending the annual CME (Continuing Medical Education) convention the big topic was patient compliance. The facts presented is that doctors believe their patients are taking their medications when told so by the patient. WRONG. About 30% don't even fill the prescriptions. About 20% just stop taking their meds because they don't like the side effects or the costs and lie to their doctor. Now your insurance company has proof of this because of electronic prescriptions and will contact the doctor to tell them to call you in to deal with you being non compliant. So you may believe you have a right to not take the drugs if you don't want to, seriously everyone knows of diabetics who blow their diets, or readjust their insulin when they are planning on drinking or eating too many sugars. Well the insurers believe that if you are going to be non compliant then they will be forced to charge you more because they anticipate your greater health care costs in the future. How long until the insurers will insist you lose the weight that you have decided to accept as part of your aging body? How long until you are at the grocery store and an alarm goes off because you're not approved for those chocolates you want to buy? Yes these are extremes but in this country the big insurance companies are getting everything that they could ever wish from our government.
Please feel free to pass this around and discuss with family and friends.
