Food Porn: The Novel?

I'm on the lookout for any books that contain the elements of both novels and cookbooks. For example, I'm thinking along the lines of Fried Green Tomatoes, which is heavily food based (being set largely in a cafe), with recipes at the back, or The Kitchen Congregation, a memoir-of-types that centers on the kitchens the author has known, and ( Read more... )

advice, cookbooks

I agree. LWfC matches what you want perfectly.

It has recipes that head each chapter and then usually play a vital role in the story itself. It is a fantastic combination of romance, recipes, and adventure.

'Novels' specifically? The Pat Conroy cookbook and that Francis Mayes book about tuscany both are part memior but have recipes, although Conroy has more recipes than Mayes.
Novels? "Liqour' by Poppy Z. Brite has no recipes per se put is about a chef and fairly specific about what he is cooking at assorted points. The Enchanted Forest Chronicles has one recipe in the back, of a chocolate cake featured in one of the short stories. I'm sure I have others, but I can't think of any at the moment.

I very much second the Poppy Z. Brite books - I always gain a good 5lbs after reading them (there is also a 2nd that follows along Liquor called Prime, and more on the way).

Most anything by MFK Fisher.

Or some of Peter Mayle's books, like A Year in Provence or French Lessons or Hotel Pastis.

Not fiction, but the Sweet Potato Queens series of books have some awesome recipes.
