We are staying at the Golden Eagle Resort, which really seems like a glorified motel. On arrival they had a nice reception for us with wine, apple cider, and Vermont cheese. It was raining, so we were glad that dinner was also at the hotel. They have a breakfast place, but no dinner, so I think the dinner must have been catered. Tonight's dinner is on our own, so we went last night to scout out a place. We were really concerned because the nearest place is 1/4 mile away, and we don't want to make Jack walk around in the dark.

We woke up to completely blue skies and glorious sunshine! A complete breakfast was served at the same place we ate dinner. I left my umbrella and heavy coat at the motel, and as soon as the bus started out it completely clouded over and got windy and cold.

Today we went to the Shelburne Museum, which was really wonderful. We would have liked to spend all day, but only had 3 hours. First we went to the Electra Havemeyer Webb house. She was a close friend of Mary Cassat, so she had several very nice pictures by her, including a portrait, and a number of impressionist paintings including Monet, Manet, and Degas. In the front room they had some beautiful Audubon-style prints of game birds, and in the basement was a collection of bronzes by Remington and other western-style artists. Next we went to the Tiffany exhibit, which was absolutely wonderful. Then we boarded the Ticonderoga, which had been moved a short distance of several miles from Lake Champlain to sit at the museum. It was very interesting to go down and see the engines. By this time we didn't have time to eat lunch, so we bought wrapped sandwiches.

After we left the Shelburne Museum we did a tour of the Vermont Teddy Bear Factory. I would have really liked to skip this, but it was rainy anyway, so it wouldn't have been very comfortable at the Shelburne Museum. Also, Jack seemed like he was getting a little tired, so it was just as well. The bus driver said he would take anyone that wanted to a restaurant he knows of, so most of the people on the tour elected to do that, and we are going too.
