Michael came to bed early last night because he was cold, which never happens. (He is usually a human furnace.) This morning we woke up at 5 AM because it was 40 degrees inside the house. So Michael went downstairs to check the furnace. When he opened the little door of the furnace, foom! It went on. However, we figured that the heat must somehow not be going into the house, so we called CNG anyway, because we have a service contract. They arrived at our house at 7:30, which made us very happy. Unfortunately, he couldn't find anything wrong with the heating system. He said it must have been off more than overnight, because it would take longer than that for the temperature to drop so much. However, the temperature outside was close to zero, so I think he was wrong. The temperature is back up to 70 now (we are keeping it a little high because of my foot) so we are comfortable again. However, I am afraid that this will happen again when it is even less convenient.
I guess I am getting a little stronger every day. Today I tried to do some walking with no crutches again, and was actually reasonably successful! Yesterday I went up and down the stairs a couple of times just to get something I needed, and today I was able to carry a plate at church coffee hour. It is amazing how much you miss being able to do these little things. I am really motivated to keep trying to walk with no crutches, because I think if I can demonstrate that I can do this at my next appointment, he will let me get rid of the boot!
Michael put kitty litter on the skating rink outside our front door, and I feel reasonably secure walking on it. It doesn't seem slippery.
