Today I learnt that the term "Mad as a hatter" came from the old days when hat makers would use mercury to make/mold the top hats (consequently out of rabbit fur). The mercury got into their system and made them crazy. Love little tib-bits like that. It's were the character of the Mad Hatter came from in Alice in Wonderland ( Read more... )
