It's not dark, you're misunderstanding me, bro.

mm'kay I adore The Vampire Dairies. That has never been a secret. I honest-to-god believe it is one of the best written series on television right now, and I never seen a twenty something episode per season program as well paced as this series. I often give it the dues I think it deserves. However, I wish Kevin Williamson would realize how bad he has been doing with the series' diversity factor; it has been extremely tragic throughout the program's run, and it is getting sort of embarrassing. I shouldn't be correctly guessing the role of any black character that pops up on the scene. I mean, come on. Black people have two options in Mystic Falls: end up dead (probs as vamp food) or reveal themselves as witches and in league with a vampire. Whether or not, they switch sides a la Lucy from 2.07 Masquerade isn't the issue. It's just weird, you lot. Then you had April and Pearl last season. They were chill, smart vampires, and I was excited to see Asian characters that weren't so basic stereotypes because they weren't, and they only ended up dead. It's depressing, man. I am quite aware I am not making the strong case right, but it's almost midnight. I am just stating my piece before I go to sleep later, and honestly the series makes my case itself.

Despite everything, I do enjoy this series; I am not going to drop any time soon. I just REALLY wish someone would take Williamson by the shoulders, shake him a bit, and ask him if he's even aware of the implications he has set up throughout his entire show. I get that he is trying, especially after the (rightful) flack he got over an all white Dawson's Creek and TVD is a show with a high mortality rate, but sometimes trying isn't good enough.
