So it's been kind of abominable, between sickness and sleep disruptions and stress. I'm completely wrapped on my schedule, often unable to sleep at all during the night, or if I manage to get to sleep I typically wake up between 3-4am and can't get back to sleep again.
Chance has been mouse-crazy since we had the cold snap, but we've found that sprinkling cayenne around where he wants to sniff/excavate helps. He gets a snoot of cayenne, looks confused, and usually stops. But he keeps finding new places to sniff, and if it's around computer cabling we don't want to be as liberal with the cayenne, and some of the places are under desks where it's hard to get. Adding an air filter into the bedroom for white noise also helped for a few days but then he picked a new corner last night, and we were too tired to figure out how to cayenne it without making a horrible mess so we just locked him in the bathroom to sleep. The cayenne is also supposed to repel mice so we're hoping that will help, plus we've put some traps under the house. We haven't had any mice actually get into the house, but they are definitely scuttling around underneath, especially in the wee hours of the morning.
I've been horribly sick back at least to getting glutened on my birthday (sigh, I should know better than to eat from a commercial gluten-free bakery that also bakes gluten stuff and that doesn't batch test; one mistake on their end and I am sick for months) and perhaps dating back to the antibiotics I got from the surgery, and they have been making me really fatigued, so I started an elimination diet last weekend. That is as fun as ever but many of the issues have already improved. I'm still having lots of flareups but since most of the usual food related ones straightened out I am hoping that it's from stress and lack of sleep.
I've also been using the light box steadily every morning for a few weeks. This means I am waking up really well at that time even if I've had only a few hours of sleep, and am able to get up and do it even if I have had no sleep at all. If we can ever get Chance to settle down at night so he doesn't keep waking me up I may start being able to sleep normally again, and I'll have a nice solidly fixed wake time. Right now I'm sleeping most of the day, which I hate, but I've got to sleep sometime or my head might actually explode. We upgraded our phones to a set of phones that let me actually BLOCK a number that is robocalling us, so that will also help with getting less interrupted sleep during the day. I hope they have a big long block list. Our phone company claims to let us block numbers but then refuses to block, well, any number I have ever tried. Helpful!
My foot is back up to about 90% despite not working as hard on it as I should be, since I've just been too *tired* to do all of it every day. But I've been getting at least twenty minutes of walking in a day and I'm managing to get up and do things a bit, and it feels pretty good. I can balance on it as long as I can balance on the good foot, walk with a normal stride, and stand up from sitting on the floor. It still gets sore sometimes, and is slightly weaker. I feel like even if I don't particularly work it hard I should be pretty well back on track by the end of the month as promised. It's nice that it's working itself out as I just don't have much energy for it.
Anyhow, all of these things should be helping bit by bit. I am just feeling impatient about it all.
