Thanksgiving

Nice and quiet, at my mother's. I was very zonked the day after and moderately zonked all weekend. She made pumpkin cognac creme brulee that I could eat, which was delicious but dangerous! The dangerous part was that she had a kitchen blowtorch, which she handed to me with no instructions to caramelize the sugar and then proceeded to lean way over where I was working to grab something, with no warning. I did not set my mother on fire and I did an adequate job caramelizing the sugar, and I even got one as a leftover. Score!

I'm embarassed that I didn't think about spicy foods before Thanksgiving; she's been making dirty rice stuffing for a few years now and it can be VERY spicy, though she toned it down a lot this year, but it was still far beyond Bradmom's taste, and I suggested the salad dressing that was also probably too spicy (it is So Much Garlic) too. Doh! There was lots of other food, and THREE desserts, but still!

Moose did not make any major scores this year, though he got very close to scoring the roasting pan with all of the drippings.

I found Phoebe a little shaggy grey squeaky toy doll that looks almost like her while I was in Sonoma (she is a grey shaggy mop of a dog), and she seemed to like it. Then she took Moose's bone away from him. Or he stole it first from her. I'm not sure what the provenance of that bone was. Phoebe's not too fond of Moose, but they get along okay.

There were of course plenty of leftovers, and Teresa had a fridge and microwave in her hotel so she was able to skip eating out a few times, which is neat. I ate mostly leftover stuffing over the weekend, which may help explain the migraines.

We did get to play Fluxx. It is a silly and fun game. I like that it takes almost no explaining and seems to scale well from three, so it's definitely a keeper. (Apples to Apples, which Teresa brought up to Sonoma, probably kicks into gear at four, and was very good with five, but I don't think would hold well at three, like a lot of card games. Fluxx is SOLID at three.) Another nice thing about Fluxx is it's very luck-based and silly, so it's a good game to play when you're zonked because you don't have to form clever strategies.
