Vodka: Not Just for Drinking!

Feb 03, 2012 19:14

I saw this on the news a couple of weekends ago and was fascinated.

You can use vodka (not your good shit, of course, that's for drinking!) for a variety of household applications. This comes from This Old House, so you know it's reliable.

1. Diluted vodka can be used in place of Windex to give your windows a streak-free shine!

2. Shine your chrome fixtures (faucets, sinks) without leaving spots or streaks. I actually tried this on my kitchen faucet.

3. Use it as Febreeze! Really! Spritz vodka on smelly clothes and hang them up. The alcohol will evaporate and leave your clothes smelling fresh and not like vodka. DO NOT TRY THIS WITH OTHER BOOZES. ONLY VODKA.

4. Remove rust from screws. Drop your screws in some vodka for a couple of hours, then wipe that rust away.

5. Preserve cut flowers put putting a wee bit of vodka, a teaspoon of sugar, and some water in your vase. I've also tried this one. Supposedly it inhibits the production of some chemical that wilts flowers.

6. Use it as a stain remover! Blot ink, grass, lipstick, and food stains with a clean cloth and some vodka.

7. Kill weeds! Mix an ounce of vodka, a couple of drops of dish soap, and water. Spray on the leaves of your weeds to make them shrivel and DIE TO DEATH.

8. Clean your tile and grout! Spray it on, wait half an hour, use a toothbrush to scrub that grout out. Note: don't use a toothbrush someone is currently using unless you are getting REVENGE.

9. Homemade ice pack that isn't that shitty blue stuff! Mix equal parts vodka and water, put it in a ziploc bag, drop it in the freezer. Apply to achy muscles, and then you can apply it to a glass of orange juice afterwards and consume.

10. De-stink your shoes. Spray in some diluted vodka and foot stank is gone.

And this came from Better Homes and Gardens (which I almost wrote Gardners. Now I want Guy Gardner giving decorating tips. SOMEBODY WRITE THIS.): You can make your own scratch tickets by mixing one part dish soap (like Palmolive) to two parts metallic acrylic paint. A couple of blogs suggested putting contact paper over the prize portion before painting it. Probably not a bad idea.

And those are tips! Tips for your life! I'm gonna shove dutch baby in my face and wash it down with VODKA.
