[Insert Sad Sax Solo Here]

Sep 11, 2011 19:05

[A certain elevator in a certain part of The Nexus descends into view and comes to a stop. The doors then open slowly. And out of it steps a queenly sort of woman; carrying a high-powered rail gun almost equal in length to her own height. Around her shoulder is draped a heavy coat; the hem flutters lazily in the non-existant breeze. The woman ( Read more... )

[It didn't take a psychic to sense the imminent danger, but it helped. Dimitri sensed the woman's presence and her intent to kill long before the shots were fired. It wasn't his first time deflecting a projectile, but certainly the first time he'd been on the business end of anything close to a rail gun. Even with his powers at full strength, the shield he built up was not quite enough to allow him to stay on his feet.]

[Fortune will find him a bit of a ways down the hall, floating, with his own force field up.]

[Fortune fires her weapon 2 or 3 times. The shots take out the upper part of the container that had been concealing her unseen foe. One of these shots also blows away a pipe at the far side of the hall, bringing down a shower of rubble in that area.]

! [Just then, Fortune sees his face. -Or mask, rather. His body... is definitely not Solid Snake's, is it?]

[Confused] That's not... --him?

[The way he floats causes her to stare momentarily. As the current leader of a group like Dead Cell, she's used to seeing people that posses inhuman powers... But this is her first encounter with a person who has such abilities- other than (possibly) herself.] ...This could be ...interesting....

[Fortune, with her uncanny ability to sense terror in others, realizes that Mantis carries with him a dark past. Whether this is a sign of actual psychic ability on her part or just naturally keen intuition is yet to be determined.] You’ve seen the fires of Hell, haven’t you?

[Her weapon has been temporarily lowered. --For the moment, anyway.]

Maybe you ( ... )

[The young psychic was in quite the panic as various parts of the hallway come crashing down, including the shower of water from the busted pipe. He wasn't sure how much flooding it might cause, but he was mildly comforted in remembering that it would sort itself out as though nothing had happened tomorrow.]

[For now, he floated much like a leaft caught in a gale, until finally settling back into a stable relationship with his orientation to the floor. This woman, this...Helena, was obviously not in her right mind. He didn't have enough energy to spare towards reading more of her thoughts, but seeing as how she was now talking, he cautiously lowered to the floor, hoping it wasn't too obvious he was trembling.]

[The fires of Hell...] I've seen fires, but I don't think they were sent from Hell. My name is Dimitri Lebedov. Why do you seek death?

"Why"?

[Shouting] What reason do I have to go on?? I've got nothing left... [Her voice lowered; expression pained as sorrow comes through in her tone.]

...The only thing I live for... [Then, suddenly, the anger and hatred in her voice is back. The woman raises her rail-gun again] Is to see this miserable existence come to an end!

[The woman sneers at his apparent fear. Now that simply wont do at all.]

[Furrowing her brow] Are you a proud man, Dimitri? A strong man?

[-- something impacts the wall hardly a foot away from him as he emerges from the corner. Too soon and he would have had been scooping up his abdominal contents from the floor.]

What the-?

[Volgin's single eye flicked around the hall for the source of the blast, stopping at the elevator where there stood a woman. A beautiful thing to behold, really, with, notably, a very large gun.

No time to admire this creature. Quick assessment: Why fire at him? Had she been waiting for him? With the way she talked...

Volgin had performed some dark and deprived things in the Nexus recently. Had someone been seeking revenge against him, perhaps? He had quirked a brow at the father talk; his crimes had been against women.

His English was harsh with his thick Russian accent:]

I didn't "finish" your father!

[His muscles were taut, ready to fling his ridiculous mass across the room if he needed to. Those weren't mere bullets.]

[Finally seeing the large man, Fortune furrows her brow in confusion] Not him.... [Who the hell?]

[Suddenly, as he speaks with that thick Russian accent, a look of realization crosses her features. A Gurlukovich man...]

[She exhales through her nose in annoyance, and slowly lowers her large weapon.]

You're not supposed to be down here. [Her disappointment with the situation is obvious in her frustrated tone.] Where is your uniform?

[Scott freezes, hearing his daughter's voice. He's met her in the nexis before but can't remember how that meeting ended.

The bitterness in her voice is palatable but not enough warning as the bullets fly in his direction. Years of training in the Marines allow him to doge one bullet the second clipping his right arm, blood staining the white undershirt of his civilian clothes as he crumples to the ground.]

[Nothing like taking a stroll on your fifth day in the Nexus just to get shot at. Jack is unarmed, unsuited, and for that matter not even fully trained. It'll be three years until he gets his life-changing mission at the Big Shell. Only lucky enough to avoid her shots then, he stood even less of a chance now.]

[That said, the young blonde still managed to take cover, following it up with a slightly panicked plea for a ceasefire. What was this women even talking about?!]

H-hey! What are you doing--don't shoot!

[She watches as the pale man flails] ...You're not the man I'm looking for...

[But she still hasn't lowered her weapon. A rather dangerous glint remains in her eye. Something about Raiden has caught her interest.]

[At least she stopped shooting, but he doesn't trust that look in her eyes. Remaining wary, he only pokes his head around the corner to talk.]

Yeah? I'd think not, since I don't even know you. How about you lower the gun, I'm not here to fight.

[Ominously, as she studies his features with a dark expression.] "Not here to fight"... [She repeats]

But are you sure about that?

[Fortune blinks; lowering her weapon.] Vamp?

[The woman fully drops her rail-gun, and approaches the man slowly.]

I'm sorry...!
