[A certain elevator in a certain part of The Nexus descends into view and comes to a stop. The doors then open slowly. And out of it steps a queenly sort of woman; carrying a high-powered rail gun almost equal in length to her own height. Around her shoulder is draped a heavy coat; the hem flutters lazily in the non-existant breeze. The woman

! [Just then, Fortune sees his face. -Or mask, rather. His body... is definitely not Solid Snake's, is it?]
[Confused] That's not... --him?
[The way he floats causes her to stare momentarily. As the current leader of a group like Dead Cell, she's used to seeing people that posses inhuman powers... But this is her first encounter with a person who has such abilities- other than (possibly) herself.] ...This could be ...interesting....
[Fortune, with her uncanny ability to sense terror in others, realizes that Mantis carries with him a dark past. Whether this is a sign of actual psychic ability on her part or just naturally keen intuition is yet to be determined.] You’ve seen the fires of Hell, haven’t you?
[Her weapon has been temporarily lowered. --For the moment, anyway.]
Maybe you can give me death...?

[The young psychic was in quite the panic as various parts of the hallway come crashing down, including the shower of water from the busted pipe. He wasn't sure how much flooding it might cause, but he was mildly comforted in remembering that it would sort itself out as though nothing had happened tomorrow.]
[For now, he floated much like a leaft caught in a gale, until finally settling back into a stable relationship with his orientation to the floor. This woman, this...Helena, was obviously not in her right mind. He didn't have enough energy to spare towards reading more of her thoughts, but seeing as how she was now talking, he cautiously lowered to the floor, hoping it wasn't too obvious he was trembling.]
[The fires of Hell...] I've seen fires, but I don't think they were sent from Hell. My name is Dimitri Lebedov. Why do you seek death?

[Shouting] What reason do I have to go on?? I've got nothing left... [Her voice lowered; expression pained as sorrow comes through in her tone.]
...The only thing I live for... [Then, suddenly, the anger and hatred in her voice is back. The woman raises her rail-gun again] Is to see this miserable existence come to an end!
[The woman sneers at his apparent fear. Now that simply wont do at all.]
[Furrowing her brow] Are you a proud man, Dimitri? A strong man?

I understand that you'd want the pain to end. [He held up his hands, palms facing the woman with the giant gun.] It's only natural that you'd want to join the people you've lost.
[Breathing slowly, he nodded.] I'd certainly say so. I take great pride in my abilities and I know how to use them in combat. My ancestors were capable of surviving the harshest of conditions and so can I.

[Clicking the power-adjuster to the side of her weapon.] You don't "understand" ANYTHING.

KILL ME NOW!!! [The woman starts firing in his direction again; various objects in the hall acting as shrapnel as the bits scatter about.]

[The barrier of psychic energy was concentrated into a smaller bubble, debris bouncing off as it settled in the wake of the blasts. Though it still took a lot of effort to maintain the shield, he held his ground, pooling together enough energy to try and wrest the gun from her hands.]
CALM DOWN HELENA! [Hearing her name might calm her down. He couldn't imagine things getting worse.]

-! [Blinking at the sound of her name] "Helena"?
[Caught off-guard at his apparent full mind-reading abilities]

[OH THANK GOD. He could rest a bit and think of a new strategy.]
Helena, do you know where you are right now? [Get them while they're stunned.]

[She frowns] Why haven't you attacked me yet?

[At least, he hoped those shots she had fired were supposed to miss.]
I'm not about to pick a fight without proper provocation.

So you don't feel "threatened" enough yet...?
[Taking aim once again, she switches the mode to more concentrated sniping shots- rather than the wider-range explosive ones.] I can change that. [Rather than be angry, for the moment, she seems more hopelessly disappointed than anything else.]
Now set me free, Dimitri. Please... Give me peace! [This time, she begins firing at the man directly; tears falling from her eyes]
Kill me! *BANG* Hurry! DO IT NOW! *BANG*

[In an act of incredible concentration and quick thinking, Dimitri began floating again, avoiding the concentrated shots easily enough, but not without some true fear coursing through him. If it was a fight she wanted, he'd give it to her.
The barrier lessened around him enough so that he could open several doors, various objects sailing into the hallway and straight at Helena. The barrage was near continuous as he tried to get closer to her so that he might attack her more directly.]

Sorry... [Provoking the man as she shoots more rounds at him] That wont work!
[The area around them is beginning to look like the scene of a multiple car crash; debris everywhere and various items consumed in flame. She shows not even a hint of fear as he gets closer. Instead, Fortune gives a dark sort of laugh. She's very close to "losing it" completely at this point.]
Give me everything you've got!!! PUT ME OUT OF MY MISERY!

FINE!! [Obviously a frontal assault wasn't going to work, so he'd opt for the more...traditional. At least, for him.]
[He hovered directly in front of the woman's face, eyes ablaze behind his mask.] I can't give you death- [If she was perceptive enough, she'd notice a slight shift to the soundo of his voice as he drew upon his telepathic powers.] But I can give you momentary peace. Put the gun down, Helena. PUT IT DOWN. It's so heavy, isn't it? Far too heavy for your tired limbs to bear... You must be exhausted.
[It sounded like hypnotism, and in all technicality, it was.]
