Oscar Countdown - Best Actor

Feb 22, 2008 19:47

This year is an odd year, because the front runner is the front runner is the front runner. Across the board with critics a(nd I agree) - DDL is stunning, chill inducing at times. It makes you laugh out loud with pleasure, just to have the honor of SEEING something that amazing. That said, any other year and it would probably be Tommy for me. I think the last three, the young'uns, are all very intersting - Gosling pulls something off that shouldn't work, normally couldn't work...Brolin (and WHO could've guessed that he could do this) gives such a natural, tense, humorous performance, and another "who could've guessed"..an Affleck who can act! And not only act but give this painful, supressed, exploration into insecurity and ambition. I can honestly say that I want to see all 5 of these performances again.

BEST ACTOR

Daniel Day-Lewis - There Will Be Blood

Tommy Lee Jones - In the Valley of Elah

Ryan Gosling* - Lars and the Real Girl

Josh Brolin - No Country for Old Men

Casey Affleck - The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford

Runner-up: Phillip Seymore Hoffman - before the devil knows you’re dead/the savages
