Hello all
As I said earlier today I am writing to update further on my life and show pics so here we go. I am writing my English paper on civil unions vs. marriage for gay and lesbian couples which is interesting. We've already turned in our proposal and annotated bibliography and our position paper is due on Friday. I don't think I'll have a hard time writing it but we'll see.
I've been surprised by how few books I've read lately. Normally I go through a book or two a day but now it seems I've been reading more fanfiction and e-books. I still go to Books-a-Million two or three times a week but that's just because I love bookstores. I was really disappointed the other day when I went to buy the new MaryJanice Davidson book Hello Gorgeous. I figured it would be $7 or $8 but since they made it a trade paperback rather than a normal it was $14!
Mini Rant time: I hate trade paperbacks. The pages are really flimsy and tear easily and the size is awkward. Basically it's an excuse by publishers to try and make more money. The sucky thing for them though is the majority of people won't buy trade paperbacks because the books are too expensive for a paperback. I will willingly pay $20-25 for a hardback but I just can't make myself pay $15-20 for a paperback. I'm a poor college student who can't afford by book habit as it is much less with books like those.
Rant over. Sorry. I didn't end up getting the book (see reasons above) and instead went to Pier 1. I adore that store even though the wicker theme right now is weird. I'm not a huge fan of wicker. People who know me don't let me sit in wicker chairs because I always end up breaking all the pokey things off. Therefore wicker is something I will never have in my house. A month after I bought something all that would be left of it would be a pile of broken ends laying on the floor.
In other news I've been entertaining the idea of writing a book. I'm not worrying about getting it published or anything because frankly I don't even know if I have the patience to finish anything. If I actually do it will be something mystical or supernatural. Those are my favorite type of books. Time-traveling Vikings, vampires (not Anne Rice), and were-anything are my favorite.
Here are a couple of pictures I took of the two new flower arrangements I wrote about last time.
That is the first arrangement I did and this is the second
. I also played around with regular pictures and I did one manip. The manip will only make sense to those who actually know me but I still think it's neat.
and last but not least
. I really enjoyed playing with the pictures so expect more soon.
Today I am going to do a fanfiction and an original fiction recommendation. For my fanfiction one I am recommending
Maps and Legends by Rachel Anton and Laura Blaurosen. It's a QAF B/J story which is really amusing. The characterizations really go with the actual characters and the story is really good.
For my original fiction I am recommending the In Death series by J. D. Robb. For those who don't know J.D. Robb is a pseudonym for Nora Roberts but don't let that fool you. Although this series has romance in it there is so much more to it. The main character is Lt. Eve Dallas with the NYPD. Every book follows her through a homicide investigation. The books are set in the year 2059 but it is not so science fiction-y as to be unbelievable. I have really enjoyed this series and I buy each new book the day it comes out.
That's it for now. I will write more later in the week once things have started happening with school and whatnot. My next goal with LJ is to upload a QAF mood theme. Hopefully that will be done by the next time I write.
