Some of you have been asking if I will be a panelist at Pi-Con. The answer is that I am not a panelist. This was not my choice, but I am not upset about it and you should not be either.
Yes, this is because of the confidential and erroneous statement from someone at ConBust. This statement was then acted on by someone in the Pi-Con hierarchy who I am fairly certain was not Jen Williams or Lucky. Who it was, although I am fairly certain I know who it is, is not important.
I will still be at Pi-Con, paying for my own registration and all. I expect that this will be quite enjoyable, giving me the chance to actually roam and enjoy the con which I helped to originally build. I look forward to seeing the new hotel and all that they have filled it with. I hope to see you all there.
For those of you who do not know, you can register at
http://www.pi-con.org, and you should... RIGHT NOW!
I would also like to speak for a moment about Kris Snyder. I have said some uncharitable things about her in the past. While I do feel that she has areas in which she could improve, I was not fair in what I have said, so let me say this now. Kris is deeply dedicated to fandom, the kind of dedication which keeps fandom running. She is well organized and hard working. Her only fault may be that she has a great deal of difficulty communicating her good intentions which ruffles feathers, including mine. When she overcomes that, she will be one of the great SMOFs in New England.
My own communications skills sometimes resemble a 12 pound sledge hammer, so I am certainly not trying to say that I am superior to her in that way. Merely, that is the issue which led to our differences one year ago. (Exactly one year ago as coincidence would have it) In fact, no one who made a post like mine of July 12, 2008 really has much of a leg to stand on trying to say that someone should learn to communicate from him.
I can only hope that I can learn from my mistakes, as I hope for everyone, and the community is better for our growth.
In closing, register for
Pi-Con now, before I have to unleash crazed weasels on you!
