What I'm Working On and What's Tempting Me
First, the stuff that's on the actual "to do" list.
Now, the stuff that's tempting me.
Er, if I do all that, I'm going to be seriously crazed. I've made myself a rule that I can not sign up for anything until at the very least I have chapter 20 of TKWIA done and posted. Doing little ficlet thingies for still_grrr so as to feel like I'm getting things accomplished is all well and good. (And the shinies beckon!) But even though the Giles H/C, for example, has a 500 word minimum, how likely is it that I'd actually manage something that short?
I've subdued the siren song by submitting prompts to the three that are not exchanges. I have written prompts for hermione_smut, but I don't get to post them until chapter 20 is done and posted. That's also near the end of the claiming period for Giles H/C, so the same thing holds there. The claiming is much looser for the last two, so I can worry about them later. Look, I'm still trying to justify doing all four! Fests and ficathons and exchanges really do have an allure to them, but I don't want to end up not writing other stuff. I'm trying to tell myself that by submitting prompts to the ones that don't have any strings attached, I'm actually farming out some of my plot bunnies. Problem is, they're new plot bunnies, not the ones that have been hanging around the hutch and nibbling at the doors for awhile. *le sigh*
Also? I have other shinies! First of all, the icon on this post, made by ubiquirk. She's also making me a banner thingie to use on my profile page. I've taken a page out of her book and moved most of my awards and banners and things to this post, keeping just the most recent things on the profile page. In theory, when I add something new, I'll move something older to the post. We'll see if I can stay that organized. But especially when you consider the participation banners and things from still_grrr, it was starting to get a teensy bit cluttered, so I needed to do something.
I'm still slightly boggled that there were enough of them to warrant such reorganization.
At the moment, the profile page just has a link to the awards post, but soon there will also be an ubiquirk-made banner. Quite probably this one:

Okay, that's it. The wrap-up is wrapped up! I'm not even looking at the back burner right now, because there's enough on the front burners! lol
Plus, there's, you know, school and work and stuff. *glances around apartment* And stuff. Oh, and beta work! I have a beta pimp to post in a bit, plus I've done a couple of betas for anonymous exchanges that I can't (obviously) pimp until after their respective reveals.
Fic Wrap-Up 2/18-3/9/08
- Second Look (BtVS/HP, Faith/Remus, G) I was hoping this would take care of the Faith/Remus itch that's been in the back of my mind for damn near a year now, but it looks like it may want more. If there is a sequel, I predict much to do with these two learning about themselves through each other but probably less with the happy ending.
- Plantus Interruptus (AtS, Illyria/plant, PG-13) Crackfic, for sure.
- Not So You'd Notice (BtVS, highlight for pairing:Buffy/Satsu, R)

What I'm Working On and What's Tempting Me
First, the stuff that's on the actual "to do" list.
- TKWIA chapter 20. Yesterday was the one-month mark since I posted chapter 19. I'd hoped to get a draft of 20 off to be beta'ed early this week. It's still not ready to go on Sunday night, alas. It's not entirely unexpected that this chapter has been a rough one, because it's not so much an edit as a complete rewrite. Before, there have been some 50-75% rewrite chapters. This one is like 99%. Like I just copy-pasted two sentences from the alpha draft and that is all that remains of it. That's probably going to be the case from here on out, as I've made some drastic changes to major plot devices. Some of that leaves earlier foreshadowing sort of twisting in the wind, but I still think the story will be better for it. My alpha readers told me it seemed forced the first time. I tweaked it. When I came back to reread and prepare to edit, I cringed. They were being kind. It wasn't forced, it was ridiculous. It was also rather cliche, though I hadn't known that when I first did it, as I hadn't read as much fanfic back when I wrote the very first draft (August 2006, eep!), particularly HP fanfic. Poor ubiquirk has had to listen to entirely too much babble about what I thought I was doing with said plot device and how to make the story work without it. She had some good advice that nudged me in what looks to be the right direction. On the plus side, I have hopes of wrapping this up by chapter 23-24, possibly 25. A rather large jump downward from the original 43 chapters, which I'd originally expected to pare down to about 30.
