Well, I've been total pants (or lack-there-of) at keeping up with the Historical Sew Fortnightly this last few weeks. I missed Stripes entirely and just barely squeezed in my Accessory before the deadline. Still no plans for "By the Sea," which is next. I got pretty distracted with sister's surgery and Naka Kon and working on the hanbok which, while for the Historical Masquerade, is in a contemporary style that I get to bend the rules for as ethnic entries get to skip the rule about how old it has to be. I'm spending the next week in Boston for work and I've gotten the jeogori (jacket) to the stage where I can take it along for something to do in the hotel room in the evenings while I'm winding down before bed. There's a lot of hand-sewing the lining down inside the sleeves and collar that should keep me occupied for a while. After that, it just needs hemming and attachment of the ribbons for tying and it'll be done. Huzzah!
The idea started from a stack of fabrics that D bought for me when she moved back from South Korea. The jeogori is from one of those fabrics and the rest of the outfit was built around matching that. It took some creative pattern piecing to fit those embroidered butterflies in as the fabric was manufactured with a smaller size in mind. But I broke a couple of pattern pieces into two parts and made it work.
And for the HSF Accessories challenge, a Regency-ish cravat for
mijan. Silk habotai from Dharma, dyed alpine blue. Hand sewn with a teensy little embroidered starburst on it, as it needed just a bit more happy.
