The second part of Uniklubi's Studiodiary is online on the bands'
official myspace right now and I did a quick translation of that as well. There's more playing than talking, so this time, there is only one gap ;)
I "changed the rules" and now put something like "stage directions" instead of the asterisks whenever I described the sitation. You'll see what I mean ;) I will probably edit the first translation as well then, because it's a lot easier to read like that. Some patience, please =)
So, this is Part II:
Uniklubi in the Studio 2008
PART II - Basses, nice piano and acoustic guitars…
Petrax Studio, Hollola 2008
Metronome ticking, Teemu waves into the cam and starts playing. When the vocals start, he stops. There’s a cut, Teemu is apparently still recording, though at the moment he and Jari are listening to what’s been recorded before. That’s when Jussi comes in. Somewhere in between, Jari says...
Jari: Let’s do this one again.
They look for the right moment to continue recording and Jari says something I don’t understand because the music is too loud ;) Teemu records the last few sounds when someone else (probably Antti, their drum tech?) comes in and asks something.
Some more Bass-sounds and Pasi making a funny face.
Another cut, Jussi in front of the computer, obviously typing something to the forum.
Jussi: Well… at the moment I’m writing to our Forum in the studio diary so that…
Teemu: …we ourselves know what we’re going here *both laughing*
Jussi: yes. So that we can read ourselves…
Teemu: …what we’ve done on certain days! *still laughing*
Back to the recording room.
Teemu: How’s our producer Tomi Pietilä feeling about these sessions?
Tomi: Nice, just like always.
Teemu: You haven’t drunk anything at all so far!
Tomi: I haven’t been drinking for two years at all.
A weird voice scene...
Teemu: So you have stopped drinking altogether?
Tomi: Yes.
Antti (tech) and Tomi-Weird voices scene continued.
Teemu: Did you stop because of the last session? [I wonder if he hints at Luotisade recordings...?]
Tomi’s weird voice scene.
Tomi: (?) /something about alcohol, drinking, and wise. I just don’t understand the sense/
Teemu: I understand.
We need to make clear at this point that Mr Pietälä probably lost about 9 - 12 years of his life during the last session, so that it is surely understandable why he doesn’t drink anymore.
Cut. Bass <3
Teemu: Now that’s Teukka’s “bastardo”…
Some more bass-recording for “Mitä Vittua”. Please note Teemu’s pants. xD
Pasi sneaks in. Teemu stops playing at some point, the demo stops as well.
Tomi: There you go…
Teemu: yep…
[Singing like a nursery rhyme (is it Teemu?):] Please play nicely…
[note: that doesn’t work in English]
The recording goes on, first on Mitä Vittua, then I suppose they’re playing another, slower song.
Teemu: It’s a little different when I play with my fingers or with the plectrum…
[note: if you look at his hand, he does indeed play only with his fingers and then, at some point, starts using the plectrum.]
Cut - back to the ‘drum-room’ again.
Teemu: Friday, that is day number five… Mutikainen [that is Antti] went to Tampere for some stuff… so now we’re playing a bit nice piano and acoustic guitars.
Cut. Pasi recording. Jari counts for him to find the entry. Metronome in the background. They stop after a while because Pasi is not in time. This probably took a while.
Pasi, looking in to the camera, growls
Jussi: Is it nice?
Pasi: (not content) It is.
They repeat this two times after that XD
I think Pasi wants Jussi to stop filming him. There’s some more metronome-ticking and counting, Jari on the keyboard.
Teemu: The producer is trying to figure out the right measure.
Great guys! *singing* Loveworkers… [as in: “working because they love it”]
Mitä vittua demo playing again, Jari filmed from far as he’s recording piano for the song.
Cut to Pasi and Janne recording a guitar part, Teemu noting that these are the guitars for Mitä Vittua. After some more playing...
Teemu: Well done, girls!
Pasi: Powergirls!
Teemu repeats that and ends with: there’s such a good mood that everything just goes well…
End of Part II
