Severus was Severus, still. No amount of 'togetherness' could alter the basic nature of who he was. Insecurity made him angry. Anger found vent in snark and deliberate baiting of those closest to him.

As evidenced by his continual harangue over the Metamorphmagus. Severus doubted he would ever be completely confident or secure in his relationship with Lupin as long as she kept turning up. 'Old friend', indeed. Life history had taught him, again and again, that in a choice between Severus Snape and anyone or anything else, no one ever chose him.

Remus insisted he would, of course, but that hadn't really been tested much, had it? Sinistra chatting with him about providing her mother with grandchildren had been disturbing enough. To watch the barely-dressed Nymphadora Tonks cling to him around the dance floor had been enough to churn his stomach - an uncomfortable sensation which hadn't stopped until he knew Remus was back at the castle after their 'not-date' Tuesday night!

Clearly, Severus had issues. He had thought that ( ... )

Inside the box was a smaller version of the memorial frame he had made for Hogwarts, though the image was empty. Severus had tried to extract memories of Remus' friends to place within it, but all his recollections of the lot of them were too tainted with the most profound dislike, and no amount of effort could make it something tolerable. There was also an album of one of the other groups Remus had mentioned as not having a completed collection of - Severus had found he actually rather liked that eBay thing ( ... )

His restlessness and general sense of feeling 'uptight' was keeping Remus more just hovering on the edge of sleep than actually asleep. But, he knew Severus would fuss if he didn't get enough sleep. If he hadn't been slightly annoyed with the constant jibes at 'Dora the last week, Remus might have found that thought alone comforting enough to provide the sleep he sought. Still, he didn't want to cause the other man trouble or worry ( ... )

Severus huffed in something like exasperation, or maybe self disgust, even as his arms pulled Remus closer.

"Not much of a present if that's all there was," he said, nodding his head toward the box on the tray. "Your real present is over there. I just thought you might like... company... while you slept."

Not to mention that his usual morning nap would be more comfortable on the bed rather than the chaise. He already felt his body all but melting against the other man, as though yearning to be one.

But that wasn't his only motivation, as Remus' last question reminded him. He frowned and sighed heavily, his lips pursed into a thin-line.

"There is nothing to forgive. I have been... behaving badly."

Gods! How hard it was to admit that! He swallowed hard and met Remus' gaze, trying (and probably failing) to disguise how very vulnerable he felt.

"It is very difficult for me to accept that you would rather be with me than with her - or damn near anyone else, for that matter. Like Stella and her talk of giving her mother ( ... )

Never before had Severus been so lost in such a maelstrom of delicious sensation! It was as though, having the emotional reassurance he needed let loose all his inhibitions, giving his body permission to feel and express what his heart and mind were not yet ready to acknowledge.

Remus wanted him, and no one else. Exclusively. Permanently. Commitment ( ... )

For a moment, Remus merely focused on the impression of his own teeth left behind on Severus' skin, trying to force his thoughts into some semblence of order. -- Really, they had to stop having these sorts of discussions come up within hours of the Full Moon. -- Satisfied he had neither drawn blood, not broken the skin, he leaned his head tiredly on Severus' shoulder.

"It's not that," he said softly, fear of self creeping into his voice despite his best efforts. "Not really." Although that was a heady enough thought to deal with, Remus somehow knew that Severus was quite serious about wanting all of him, wolf and man and anything in between. It was part of what him love the other man so deeply. No one else had ever shown him the kind of total acceptance, without illusions, that Severus did ( ... )

While Remus spoke, it was all Severus could do to listen and stare with a sort of wondering disbelief. No one had ever cared a Kneazle's arse for his safety before. To the Dark Lord and even to Albus Dumbledore, he was a valued and useful tool, but quite expendable if the situation required it, nonetheless.

To see, to feel, the hear the sincerity of Remus' concern for him merely added yet another layer of wondering affection to that which he already felt for the other man ( ... )

What he wouldn't do for this man who so freely accepted all the strange, twisted aspects of having a werewolf for a...lover!

"Of course I'm cautious where you are concerned. Why else would I have followed you to Malfoy's ball two months ago?" Remus was more than content to hold and be held for the moment. Here was acceptance and security and comfort. Experimentally, he allowed a hint of a growl to color his voice. "I won't let anyone hurt you, Severus. Not Malfoy. Not 'Dora. Certainly not myself."

It was a surprising thing to find out Severus enjoyed the displays of what Remus thought of as his more 'amimalistic' nature. The growling and biting had always been things Remus thought of as 'strictly werewolf' traits. He'd been with two women in the past -- one who shied from any display of dominance-play in bed and one who nearly demanded it. The latter had been another werewolf. Remus had always thought only werewolves found such things...well, sexy. The idea that a 'normal' man was affected positively by it was... ( ... )
