Place: Knockturn Alley
Characters Involved: Severus Snape and Nymphadora Tonks, various NPC's
Severus was irritated as hell. Whatever catharsis he had obtained from provoking Oliver Wood with all the maturity of a ten-year-old had long been obliterated by Carson.
Why the hell had he even bothered to clue the head of the Aurors in on what he had planned? Of course, he had thought his information might be helpful, and in a situation such as this, he was willing to go to unusual lengths to be of use, but this was ridiculous!
Carson had been astonished at the idea of using a child's blood in Potions.
Clearly the man was a dunderhead!
However, he had immediately agreed that Snape was a logical choice for seeking out the less reputable Apothecaries and suppliers in Knockturn to make inquiries. Unfortunately, he also seemed to think that Severus was less than trustworthy.
Shocking.
He was preparing to leave the main scene of the search when Carson found him, to inform him that he really had to 'insist' on providing an Auror escort on the 'assignment'.
It wasn't a bloody assignment! Severus had chosen to do it, the idiot investigator had not assigned it!!
An Auror would spoil everything! Not the least of which was that Severus could not risk revealing the exposure of his unregistered wand - which he would need to use to get into the more hidden locations! Severus was not willing to risk incarceration back in Azkaban for anything - not even potential information regarding Winifred Wood. Especially when this search was as much a 'long shot' as any of the rest of it.
"If you are going to insist, then it must be Nymphadora, or I will not go," Severus had demanded in return. "None of your other Aurors will be able to disguise themselves well enough - or alter disguises frequently enough. I won't get anywhere."
Besides which, Nymphadora already knew about his unregistered wand due to the chaos with Draco's disappearance last May. She had not turned him in on that occasion due to the over all 'good cause' - he had every reason to hope that would carry over in this situation as well.
Though, he would probably have to at least make the attempt not to call her 'Nymphadora'.
He was now at the very end of the path leading away from the Wood's cottage, on the edge of the Anti-Apparition wards, waiting impatiently for Carson to find the young Metamorphmagi, inform her of her 'assignment', and for her to get here.
Hopefully sometime before Winifred ought to be a teenager - whilst he tried not to despair of her ever attaining that age.
