I really like the way the writer has fleshed out a way to make the character's presence make sense, without making absolute assumptions about the muse or... the circumstances. It's believable. Notes: Wee!Chesters. For the... "Sam was going to kindergarten next year and Dean wanted him to know his letters when he started." ... And his matter of it just makes me go the usual, "Oh Dean!"
That said, there is a nice number of finely included udnercurrents - like Dean making sure Sam doesn't get too much of the information about the things that do go bump in the night, and not in the movies only; the trust, the protection, and hah, Dean and his mind always in girls...

Notes: This is long, and it is not easy to read, but there so, so many good reasons to go ahead and do it anyway. I'm sure it will be recommended again, because it is so multi-faceted as to merit different props - I know, MJ, I know you asked not to do that. But this prompt? Is worth it.
So I'm just going to say one thing that made me stop reading and realize again that I wanted to keep on reading, because it is there, spoken to a five-year-old. And we cannot hide our hands. We must take responsibility. Remember that, little bird.
This fic - novelette? I think that's what it is - touches on so much that's been on my mind recently that I couldn't speak of it and end up shorter than the piece itself. So I'll just stay brief. "Thank you. Respect."
