You taught me everything I know [And everything I do]

[The Alphabet]

“Okay, now A is for AC DC.”

Sam looked up at Dean, face screwed up with confusion. “But that’s a whole bunch of letters together.”

“Nah, just remember the A stands for the A in AC/DC,” Dean told him. “And it looks like…a cheerleader standin’ with her legs apart, cross bar between her knees.”

“Why’s she got a bar between her knees?” Sam asked as he drew a shaky, childish A next to Dean’s neat one.

“Dunno,” Dean answered. “She just does. Now this is a B. It stands for Blue Oyster Cult.”

“They sing that song about the reaper and not to be scared of them,” Sam said, his voice teaming with pride that he’d remembered.

“Yup,” Dean grinned at him, reaching over to ruffle his little brother’s hair. “B looks like a girl lying on her side with big ti-y’know.”

Sam stuck the tip of his tongue out between his teeth as he drew his B next to Dean’s.

“And C stands for chick,” Dean continued with the alphabet lesson. Sam was going to kindergarten next year and Dean wanted him to know his letters when he started.
“D is for Dean,” Sam told him, getting that in before Dean could say anything. The older boy chuckled and nodded. “Yeah. D is for Dean.”

“It looks like that big smile you get when Dad comes home,” Sam told him as he drew the shaky letter.

“E is a hard one,” Dean told him. “But you remember that eggnog we had for Christmas last year? Ms. Davis brought it over and Dad got kind of sad?”

Sam nodded, hair flopping in his eyes until Dean reached over and pushed it out of his face. “E is for eggnog,” the little boy said.

“Right and it looks like this. Kind of like a girl who stuck out both her arms and one leg.” Dean drew his letter than let Sam draw his next to it.

“F is for French Fries,” Dean continues with the lesson.

“It looks like a girl with just her arms stuck out,” Sam injected, making Dean smile at him.

“You’re gonna do real good in school, Sammy. Okay now G is for Grateful Dead.”

“They got Jerry Garcia. He starts with G too,” Sam said as he copied Dean’s G.

Dean was pretty sure he couldn’t get any prouder than he was right then. “H is for Hot apple pie.”
“With I ice cream,” Sam giggled. They’d had the H and I lesson last week sitting in a diner somewhere along the road. Dean had used his pie and ice cream as props.

“You remember too. You’re gonna go right through kindergarten onto the first grade. I is also for Impala,” Dean told him. “J is for Jacyln Smith. She’s the brunette in that TV show we watch sometimes about the girls who kick ass.”

“I like that show,” Sam said as he drew his J.

“And K is for Kate Jackson. She’s the other angel,” Dean said, drawing out a K for Sam. “Always think this one looks like a cheerleader with one arm and one leg sticking out. Like she’s half doing a cheer.”

“Dad says you shouldn’t half do anything,” Sam said.

“Yeah, well Dad would whip a K’s ass for half doing the cheer,” Dean decided as they moved onto the next letter. “L is for Def Leppard. It’s easy to draw. Just like a cheerleader doing a half a split. That’s another letter Dad would whip.”

That made Sam giggle and his L was a little shakier than the other letters.

“M is for Metallica,” Dean said as he reached over and ruffled Sam’s hair again. “It’s a girl from above like on a staircase.”

Sam’s brow was furrowed as he drew the letter then looked up to Dean for the next one.
“N is for next time Dad comes home he’s going to bring pie,” Dean told him “It’s…a sideways Z.”

“Like Zebra,” Sam said as he drew the N.

“Nope. Like Zeppelin but we’ll get to that one. O is next. It’s the second word in Blue Oyster Cult.”

“I think I’m gonna like school,” Sam said as he drew out the O meticulously.

“Teachers aren’t going to be as cool as me,” Dean said watching Sam.

“S’okay, if I don’t understand something I can ask you and you’ll explain it in a cool way that I get,” Sam said matter of fact.

“Yeah. I will,” Dean agreed. “P is for Pie.” Because really in the Winchester family it can’t stand for anything else. It was one of Sam’s strongest letters.

“And Q is for quik…yoohoo’s reject cousin,” Dean said. “And it looks like a big round face with it’s tongue sticking out.”

Sam liked that letter. He drew it with a giggle, the ‘tongue’ sticking out. “Can we get some yoohoo after we’re done here?” he asked.

“Yeah, we’ll walk down to the store and get some. Dad left money,” Dean nodded. They were supposed to buy food with it but yoo-hoos counted as food in the Winchester house. “R is for redrum. Like that creepy little kid in the movie.”

“Jack’s back,” Sam said as he drew the R, tip of his tongue sticking between his teeth.

“Do movies like that scare you when I watch them?” Dean asked, watching for his brother’s reaction.

“Nope. ‘Cause you let me sleep with you and nothing can get me when you’re there,” Sam said without looking up from his paper.

“That’s right, Sammy. I’ll always take care of you,” Dean nodded. “ S is for-“

“Sammy,” the little boy said, grinning a toothy smile at his big brother. “It looks like a snake. You taught me this last year.”

“Yeah. Wasn’t sure if you’d remember,” Dean responded, watching Sam with a grin. “T is next it’s for Trickster.”

“That like when Pastor Jim plays jokes on Dad?” Sam asked as he drew out the T. “You know what U stands for?”

“Nuh huh,” Sam responded, looking up at Dean. “What’s U stand for?”

“Undead,” Dean answered. “Like that movie I like with all the zombies.”

“Night of the Living Dead but they’re living. Not undead,” Sam pointed out.

“Nah, that’s just the title of the movie. They were dead and now they’re up and walking around. That’s what undead means,” Dean explained. He let Sam draw his u then moved onto the next letter. “V is for Van Halen. They’ve got that kick ass son with the guitar solo. I always turn it up when it comes on.”

“Oh yeah. I like that song,” Sam nodded.

“A V is like a cheerleader with both her arms up,” Dean told him, watching as Sam drew out the letter.

Sam finished the letter and yawned, curling a little closer to Dean. “We’re almost finished, Sammy then we’ll go get your yoo-hoo and watch Johnny Carson.”

“Kay,” Sam answered. “What’s next?”

“The best letter. It’s a W for Winchester,” Dean told him. Sam grinned at him brilliantly and drew out the letter without any help.

“Like the rifle,” Sam said. He’d heard his dad say that often enough that it was engrained in his head.

“Just like the rifle,” Dean nodded. “X is next. For X-rated and it’s a girl with her arms and legs spread out.”

“What’s X-rated mean?” Sam asked as he copied Dean’s X.

“It means you can’t see it for a few more years,” Dean answered without pause. Once Sam had finished his letter he moved to the next one. “Y is for yeti. It’s a monster that lives in cold places.”

“Always stays in cold places?” Sam asked as he drew the y out.

“Yeah. Doesn’t matter though. I won’t let anything get you, remember?” Dean reminded him.

“I ‘member,” Sam nodded. “Just making sure.”

“And Z is the last one. For Zeppelin,” Dean told him. “And remember, Zeppelin rules.”
