March 1 through March 7, 2000

Harry Potter defeated You-Know-Who, utterly and completely, at last. The wizarding world was awash in adulation and surprise, at having it finally be over after living in fear for so long.

True to form, the Weasley twins, Fred and George, held a large after-war sale at their shop, which went a long way toward lifting the spirits of the community. A bit of humour and levity after so much fear was a welcome release.

The Ministry of Magic wasted no time in setting plans in motion to keep the wizarding public safe. A manditory registration was proposed to keep the peace.

The uproar caused by that bit of legislation was briefly overshadowed by a bigger article of news, when the Wizengamot went into special session to decide the fate of Severus Snape.

That excitement had scarcely begun to die down when the official announcement of the final registration laws were reported. Less expansive than first proposed, they still encompass a broad section of the populace.

Merely hours after the new legislation was announced, a special edition of the Prophet told the world of the blanket pardon of Severus Snape, of all crimes except that of being a Death Eater. In the process, legal documents were brought to light from Albus Dumbledore, nominating Snape, Lupin, and Harry Potter all for the Order of Merlin, First Class. What an interesting combination of nominees!

Harry Potter and a group of friends chose to protest the new registration legislation by insisting upon placing themselves on the registry. As this was his first public sighting since the battle with Voldemort, his appearance caused a flurry of excitement from all quarters. His good intentions, however, came to naught when the Minister for Magic himself refused to allow Harry's name to stay on the Registry.

At this time, it is unknown precisely how many people died in the war, how many Death Eaters were captured, killed, or even imprisoned, as there are so many in each category that the Ministry is still making identifications and has not released names. Bellatrix Lestrange remains in St. Mungo's, in a special, high-security unit for the criminally insane.
