March 8 through March 14, 2000
The week started out with the wizarding community at large still reeling from the end of the war with those affected having to adjust to the Ministry's new Registry and it's conditions. The population at large was given a ray of sunshine before the weekend with the announcement that Harry Potter had been released from St. Mungo's. The news that the Saviour was alive and well was met with much rejoicing, although Harry Potter himself was not in attendance for the celebration. Future merriment was promised as a formal charity ball and dinner for the end of the month was announced. Proceeds will go to the reconstruction fund for Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry.
Festive moods came to an abrupt halt a few days later when news of Lucius Malfoy's full pardon rocked the headlines. While the logistics of his pardon remained questionable, it seemed proof was found, and viewed only by the Minister of Magic himself, that confirmed the Malfoy scion to be acting as a spy for the Ministry while under the service of You-Know-Who. The fact that the evidence used in order to issue the pardon was kept secret, even from the other members of the Wizengamot, has many questioning the validity of the pardon.
With the number of casualties and arrests due to the war, is it any wonder that the real estate market is being flooded with new listings? Once reputable Wizarding families have been forced to sell their homes and belongings in the wake of the war, creating a huge influx of properties in the market. How this will effect asking prices has yet to be seen.
And what week would be complete without a little gossip to dish out? It seemed the media elusive Harry Potter was caught about town with reportedly former flame, Ginny Weasley. The tid bit has sent the Wizarding World in a whirlwind of specualtion and innuendo as to the romantic status of The Boy Wonder and his one-time Squeeze.
