My friend Tastee is doing this and I was feeling overwhelmingly inspired to participate! It is thirty days of journal posts. I am going to do my best to do each day for the next thirty.
Day One: Introduce yourself---
My name is AJ, and on the 25th of this month I will be 27! I was born in Reno, NV to Maureen Kristof and Butch Fernandez.
I had a luxurious childhood, growing up in Las Vegas, NV with high rolling parents who loved to spoil me and my two sisters, Katie and Crystal. I've always been the "golden boy" on both sides of the family.
In 1996, my Mom gave up our wonderful life in Las Vegas, divorced my Dad and we moved to Clarksville, TN to live near my Aunt Mary and her family. We drove in one car with the trunk packed of clothing and the rest disappeared. We started over with nothing. A year later, my Dad committed suicide and life shifted completely.
High school was fun, I made lots of friends and was very involved in all sorts of fun activities.
I moved to College in St. Louis, MO in 2001 and lived there until 2006, with a semester abroad in Thailand that really showed me that there was more to life than all of "this." Around this time, I reunited with a childhood friend via myspace, whom I would later marry! Shea changed my life, for the better, and helped transition me from young adult to "grown up" in a matter of months.
We spent the next few years shuffled through Chicago, IL, Kansas City, MO, San Jose, CA and finally here to Sacramento where we purchased our first home in 2009. Living near my wife's family has been life changing, and I absolutely love everything about Sacramento.
Last month I made the decision to completely change careers. After 10+ years of working as a retail manager, I quit. I am going back to school to become a holistic health practioner of some sort (I am leaning towards Dietitian this week). My sister, Crystal, is a survivor of Stage 4 Ovarian cancer and her journey, all-natural, has inspired me to want to be more involved with this ground-breaking ancient medicine that has helped people for hundreds of thousands of years.
I love my kitten, Buddha, my sisters and nieces, friends and family so much that it makes my heart want to explode. I am eager to visit every continent and am planning a trip to Egypt in January with my Esposa. I tend to be the life of most parties even though I never intend to be. I am on the cusp of Leo and Virgo, but identify more with Virgo although most that know me would guess Leo. Rawr!
