Your first love, in great detail:
I had to think long and hard about this one. I have thought I was in love many times, but the truth is the first girl I ever really fell in love with was my wife, Shea.
All throughout high school, I had one girlfriend who I planned on marrying and spending a lifetime together with. While I really cared for her, I know now that it couldn't have been true love. In college, I had a few girlfriends, one in particular, that I thought I was falling in love with but we never quite got there.
The first time I saw Shea O'Brien I knew that I was in love for the first time. As she came down the escalator of Lambert International Airport in St. Louis, it was as if she had a glow around her. I couldn't see or hear anyone else and the clock stopped ticking for a few moments.
By this point we had already spoken probably 1000+ hours on the phone and knew that this trip would determine if we would be a couple or just great friends. I was nervous around her, and she finally cornered me after a meal on that night and laid a kiss on me. Again, earth shattering moment.
From that point on it was only two more trips until I knew that we were in love and I proposed to her. There wasn't a doubt or hesitation in my mind, I knew that I was in love and didn't ever want to lose that feeling.
Over the last five years we have shared many memories together; some not so great and many wonderful ones but our wedding is one of the highlights. To have all of those we love together in one place was magical, enchanting, and one of the best days of my life.
Shea is so different from me, and challenges me in ways I never would dare to go alone. She is a free spirit, guided by emotion, while I am a clear thinking, one-direction kind of person. She is beautiful, talented, and above all else mysterious and I hope the intrigue that I have for her never dies.
