Not long after their first date Liz shows up drunk at Gretchen's door.
"I've had, like, five... six? Fuck, I've had a bunch of drinks. I can do this," she says, and lurches forward.
Gretchen catches her before she falls and helps her over to the couch. "You know, if you weren't so oddly endearing, I'd be really annoyed with you right now. Showing up drunk at people's homes is actually kind of rude."
As it is, Gretchen isn't quite sure why she let Liz into the house when the smart thing to do would've been to shut the door in her face. A drunk girl desperate to experiment is the last thing she needs.
"You're going to go to sleep now, Liz. And not with me."
"Oh, come on," pouts Liz. "I'm right here, and I'm kind of hot! Young, nubile flesh, willing to be ravaged!" she says as she spreads her arms wide and nearly falls of the couch. And Gretchen has to admit that she does look awfully cute, with her mussed up hair and disheveled clothing.
But Gretchen is smart enough to know that it'll never work, and Liz is so drunk the sex would be horrible anyway. After a few minutes of protesting and a couple of attempts to cop a feel, Liz falls asleep. And all of a sudden Gretchen's apartment is back to be being quiet and boring.
She goes back to her bed, pulls out her vibrator, and tells herself that it's better this way.
