I don't know you and I only read pornish_pixies very sporadically during 2004 but I was pointed to this post by ook and I just wanted to say YES to everything you say and how nice it is to hear someone rational, especially someone who's been directly affected. I, too, can't find it in me to get annoyed with LJ. With the people who fingered those comms, yes, but I have loved LJ too long and they have provided a wonderful service to me for over five years so I'm not going to drop them over one issue -- and I still haven't read a detailed explanation of LJ's side of this, so I'm not going to jump to conclusions. I thought that the TOS they have protected them but also us because if they don't know about us, then we can do what we like. But when it hits the radar then, as you say, this kind of shit happens.
This also isn't a First Amendment issue. Six Apart and LJ can do this. They're not the government...First Amendment rights only apply to U.S. government restriction of free speech. Thanks for this line! Great formulation. Because I

I just want to thank you for being a force of calm in all this mess, for meeting things rationally and thoughtfully and encouraging others to follow suit. It's way too easy to get panicked and throw out knee-jerk reactions when your safe-space is threatened, and I know your level headed response to everything has helped keep me at least from freaking out too badly.
You won't know who I am either so I hope you don't mind me friending you to find out what is going on in HP fandom. Good luck with retrieving pornish_pixies.
I think it's great how calm you're being; you're setting a really good example for the rest of us despite how frustrating this must be. I can't wait for PP to be back up. If you need someone to do gruntwork/formatting to get stuff back up, count me in.
I am still trying to put all of this together. I came online 8 hours ago, and I continue to click around like crazy and read everything I can get my hands on. I am not of the HP fandom, but I have a lot of people on my flist who are. Seeing all those crossed out accounts everywhere is seriously .... scary.
I never knew your community, but it's a bloody shame that all that work was lost. It's amazing you're trying to put it all back together, and stay so calm through all of this. I wish you all the best and hope you can bring the community back.
Weirdest thing, I havent had a single MSN convo today that did not center on the LJ strikethrough (even if the people I have on my list are more message-forum based as a community rather than work through LJ). And everyone is up for doing whatever needs to be done to make a difference.
I will try help where I can as well. I hope you don't mind that I friend you because I really want to stay on top of this.
