Request for women-positive college event ideas

Sep 21, 2005 20:32

My college's feminist organization is looking for a few positive events that we could hold on campus. We're at a small, mostly conservative, private university in South Carolina. In the past, we've discovered that shock tactics do not work at all. We've also noticed that a good many of our events and activities on campus are rather negative in nature: i.e. rape awareness speakers, sexual violence policies, etc. We'd love to counter this negativity with women-positive events. Right now, the main positive "event" we hold on campus is the celebration of Women's History Month with speakers and activities celebrating the accomplishments of the feminist movement.

We don't necessarily want to limit ourselves to accomplishments of the women's movement, but those also would be appreciated. Any "It's good to be a woman" type event ideas would be wonderful. Thanks!

***EDIT***

Another question: Does anyone know if there are any feminist/sexual violence/women-positive "Live Strong"-type rubber bracelets? There are "Live Strong" bracelets for cancer awareness (started by Lance Armstrong I think). There's a white one for One.org, and there's a purple "Celebrate Life" for Relay for Life/Cancer Awareness.

Nevermind. I answered my own question: NOW's bracelet.

If anyone knows of any others, I would still love to know about them. :)
