"Non Violent" Rape?!?!
So a friend's friend on LJ made a post about how you can look up sexual offenders in your zip code and he remarked that there were a LOT in his zip code area. He lives right next to a very large college campus, and one of his LJ friends left this comment:
"What did you expect for a college campus? It'd be better to try and determine how many were date-rapes and how many were violent crimes."
I replied to her with
"By violent rapes I assume you mean stranger rapes.
Since all rape, even marital rape, is violent."
And she responded
"Well if you want to be technical like that then I meant not physically violent"
!?!?!Since when was ANY kind of RAPE NOT PHYSICALLY VIOLENT?!?!
Shoving something unwanted into someone else's body is a violent act. Period. Like shoving a gun in their mouth or a knife in their belly.
Also, I feel like her initial remark was downplaying date-rapes as fake -- like college girls just "complaining" or something, and not actually reporting real rapes.
