Magic Mike XXL Review

Jul 01, 2015 17:12

First, Happy Canada Day! It rained a little bit this afternoon, I hope the sky will be cleared when the firework is on.

Anyway, when I woke up this morning to see Channing on the cover of Vanity Fair, I knew it would be a great day. A few weeks ago, I chatted with rvchel2012, we wondered why this time Channing didn't get a major magazine cover, like GQ or Esquire. Then we saw him on Entertainment Weekly and People magazine. But those magazines do not have a new photoshoot. EW cover is from MMXXL promotional shoot. People cover uses stock photos. Then today, VF cover! (I have a theory that Caitlyn Jenner bumped CT to VF August issue) Channing is at his best when he moves. Look at him!

The article accompanying this photoshoot is pretty good too. Check it out.

In the afternoon, I went to see the movie MMXXL. Since it was 1:15pm, and today is Canada Day, so not that many people in my theatre. One thing I noticed when I got out was: There were two women getting out from my theatre, then they met their husbands and their kids. So obviously dads took their kids to see other movies, moms had some fun with Magic Mike. lol!

Now the movie. It is quite entertaining in some parts, but as many people mentioned, I felt bored when they were not dancing. Although it is nice that Channing let his costars shine in their solo routines, I only have eyes for Channing. I wish he had more screen time. One highlight of the movie is definitely the convenience store scene with Joe Manganiello. This has something to do with certain Backstreet Boys song. The full sequence of Channing's garage dance is energetic. It is rare to see a large muscled man who can dance so gracefully, I am mesmerized watching his moves. But my favorite dance from Channinng is the one happened in Rome's club Domina. I can't help but thinking how wonderful he would be on bed :) Oh! those positions. Also I have to say Rome and Mike have much more chemistry than Mike and the new girl Zoe. I am totally in for a Mike, Rome (Jada Pinkett Smith) and Paris (Elizabeth Banks) threesome. I remember reading that they filmed a Rome and Paris kiss, but decided to delete it from the final product. Speaking of other Kings of Tampa, Joe Manganiello really has an ideal physique. His ass is nice to look at. Matt Bomer is pretty, but I am never attracted to him. His fans really hype his singing in the movie, but after watching the movie, I think he is no better than some of those American Idol contestants. In fact, I prefer Donald Glover singing Bruno Mars' Marry You. Maybe it is just the songs Bomer chose, I am not really into those two songs. Speaking of the music, the soundtrack is really good. I need to get a copy. Although the movie is called XXL, Channing only got shirtless 2-3 times, and in a thong once. Overall, I give MMXXL a solid B+.

PS, Channing’s old stripper friend Adam was in the movie’s stripper convention scene. Another friend play a stripper in Neo costume. I also think MMXXL will lay the ground for Channing's MMXXL Vegas show. The concept will work well in Vegas. Let's hope the movie is a financial success. If money is power, then more power to Channing.
