I didn't read The Word for World is Forest yesterday, I went to the pictures . I didn't see Dances with Wolves. Or Ferngully: The Last Rainforest. I didn't see A Man Called Horse, Soldier Blue, Gorillas in the Mist or The Mission. I saw

What can I say? Epic, popcorn 3D action movie, with some interesting ideas and characters I liked. But I realised within the first ten minutes that I could predict the whole plot of the movie and how it would unfold. And I was pretty much right. Only thing I didn't call was the love story. When I first saw Sigourney Weaver in her avatar form, I thought they might be going to develop a relationship between her and the hero. Which would have been a less obvious, and possibly more adult thing to see. A relationship with an age difference, where one of the partners is disabled, enabled by the avatar technology. But I didn't find the film as a whole all that adult. Fifty minutes shorter, without the swearing, and it would have made a great kids' film. The world-view was simplistic enough, at any rate.
And yeah, it reminded me of all the above-cited films.
