Old Flaky hates us!

How we react to a bit of snow in this city.
I remember a Canadian relative of some family friends who was visiting them one Christmas when I was a kid in the Midlands. It was snowing, and everything ground to a halt as usual. Gail said that where she lived (I forget which part of Canada it was), the snow wasn't generally deeper than what we were having, but because it snows several times every year people know how to cope. They know how to drive safely in snow, what kit they need, and so forth. The local authorities have routine plans to deal with it. Whereas we generally won't have much snow in any given winter, and it surprises us every time. And I think London does suffer more than places further north - it gets snowed on heavily less often, so is less prepared, and more of the population commutes by public transport. And of course, we're all soft southern b******s.
