On thursday, we won the quiz by seven points.
On Firday, I went out for "welcome to the world of redundancy" drinks with
inkognitoh,
silverjet_allie and Pete. We went to the
Volunteer, a convivial venue until the braying, arrogant, rude crowds started emerging from Lord's and streaming into the pubs. Probably not helped by England's unexpected
loss to Holland, but I can remember the same kind of grief when international matches were on at
Crocker's Folly when it was open. Sad to say it as a cricket fan, but cricket crowds are horrible. They seem to bring out the loudest, most boorish, most pushy middle class privately educated city workers. Anyway, we moved on somewhere else after a bit. Can't remember exactly which pub we went to but it was cricket-hooray free. Though the aggressive kicking-out policy at closing time was a bit of a pain. It was good to see people and have a natter, anyway.
At the weekend, I went up to the Midlands. My mum was due for another operation, for one of her many chronic health conditions, on Monday. It went well, I'm glad to say, and she was out of hospital that evening. Leaving her free to direct me in the garden on Tuesday. As the rain held off, we were able to plant all the bedding plants and shrubs she'd had delivered. Or rather, I planted under careful supervision.
While Mum was in hospital, I had a wander round Wolverhampton. I went into the
public library for the first time in years. It still had the marble staircase and the same layout, but it seemed smaller than I remembered it.
I dashed back to London yesterday afternoon, so I could change and get to the softball game. But on arriving home and checking emails, I found it had been postponed due to Tube strike.
