Having a long weekend. Friday and Tuesday off work (with BH Monday).
Quiz on Thursday - we came second on a tie-break. Princess Anne kept us from victory.
Chilled out on Friday, did a bit of shopping and had a haircut.
Yesterday, I went to the first half of the May Ball softball tourney, then in the evening went over to minx2012 and Pete's place for Eurovision night.
Very good of Minxy and Pete to host the event (well, not the actual event itself, that was in Belgrade). Pimms and sea breezes aplenty, and a buffet. The show itself wasn't the best I've ever seen. Still had its moments. The UK song definitely deserved better than it received from the voting. It was never going to win, but a few more nods in its direction would have been nice. The Swedish entry was a good song but marred by being sung by a strange Grey alien clumsily disguised as a human. I noticed that her backing singers had disappeared when she was in the green room - I think she'd eaten them. I liked the bonkers Bosnia-Herzegovina entry, and their pretty good song. After last year where there were lots of post-Lordi novelty acts, this year seemed to have lots of post-Maria serious ballads and straight songs. But there was a cool number by Sebastien tellier of France, and there were more Finnish metallers, with battle axes and war maces. And my own favourites the Latvian Pirates of the Sea. With a "hi-hi-ho and a hi-hi-hay", and pirate costumes and guns, their anthem to robbery on the high seas was a joy to behold. I am so happy that my country's voters gave them ten points. Interestingly, the Irish and Maltese gave them good points too - the island nations seem to "get" pirates, I guess. They got nul points from Switzerland, I noticed. I think I slightly disturbed my friends by singing along. But really, pirates are all we can be...
Here they are again...

Russia won in the end, helped by having an ice dancer skating round the singer, which I have to admit was a good schtick.

I'm off to Midlands tomorrrow to visit mum, and also see the nephews as they're staying with her for the weekend.
