Someone on BC posted a link to
Warehouse 23 the other day.
Quiz on Thursday went OK - share of 2nd half prize.
Frantically busy at work last couple of days of the week - had to produce figures for new purchasing system while also fitting in legal research classes and manning the desk.
Met up with
MargeryK,
yokospungeon and other Renegades on Friday after work. Good to see these good people, but couldn't stay long as I had to get to Reading for dinner with
copperbird, Rob and Anthony.
copperbird had made an absolutely delicious daube of venison. Wonderfully tasty.
Stayed over, then we went into London for
Dragonmeet. I looked over
War of the Ring. it's similar to the old SPI classic of the same name, though without Saruman as a playable position. Looks really good, with lovely components, has an interesting "political track" to represent the Free Peoples gradually becoming mobilised to fight the Shadow. The Esdevium people on their stall didn't do a great job of selling it to me, though, and I didn't get to play a demo round or two - symptomatic of the apathetic attitude to their products of most boardgame people at the convention (though there was a friendly and enthusiastic presence at the
Looney Labs stall).
I played in a demo of
Ars Magica, at
copperbird's suggestion, and enjoyed it. The system work pretty well at presenting mechanics for wizards' magic, and it's very atmospheric. I bought the rules, as they were on a cheap offer and there's a chance we might play it.
After the game, I met up with Rob & Jo again to see
I *heart* Huckabees. Existentialism, environmentalism, corporate greed - and Jason Schwartzman and Mark Wahlberg hitting each other repeatedly in the face with a space hopper.
